  • James and Pippa's

    June 12, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

These two great hosts put us up for the last four nights. Letting us completely monopolize their time and plans. They have been so great, and toured us around a ton, put up with all our weird questions about road signs, customs, language, history, beer, food, and personal life, as well as my reminiscing about high school (especial thankful to Pippa for letting me monopolize Jamie at times and reminisce probably too much), and to both of you for putting up with our "quizzing" (in both manners of speaking).
It was also great to see Sarah and Mark again, and I was so glad to finally meet Digby and see a bit of your realm. Wishing you both the best, always!

  • Winner Winner Dive Bar & Grill-York, UK

    June 14, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Because tea/coffee is good/useful (even if in the slightest) and apparently York's public, paid, bathrooms close!?! Where else can you get a bathroom and not booze... Well not at the Indian place that's for sure. Nice guys, atmosphere, and good drink as well as totally passable facilities. ;) Also great view.Read more

  • Motel One - Newcastle Upon Tyne

    June 15, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Great modern-trendy decor with awesome lounge and a very thorough and beautiful breakfast while still a "budget". Ron are a bit small but have some interesting conveniences tucked away. Slept quite well, and without noise even though the night life was fairly active outside (on a Tuesday).Read more

  • Motel One Decor

    June 15, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

See, modern-trendy?...(This is a German chain and is reminiscent of the Aloft chain, but seems to everything a little more quality. Although they are stretching the simple here a little more - only small bottles of body-hair wash but no soap, conditioner, washcloths, etc. Available upon request: phone, alarm clock, iron, ironing board, and umbrellas).
As a note, after probably too much time in hotels and some debate, Tim general really likes bar soap and washcloths but we both hate the waste of the hotel industry. So we both agree that the permanent containers (including hanging in the shower) of refillable liquid seems best... Although, as Tim puts it they are "tacky" and you still need a washcloth, or something, to efficiently use it. This explaining our convention with some 'minimalist' design. :)

... sorry for so many posts; a downfall of this app/program is a limit of six per "footprint".

  • The Twice Brewed Inn

    June 15, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

White coffee (with sugar) for me, Coalface ale for Tim as well as tomato soup, the ham steak with chips, and shared veggies. For me the catch of the day (salmon) with fried potatoes and tomatoes (which I actually ate most because they were so good) and the shared veggies.
Slow service because they were busy and the kitchen was backed up, but very good food and decent atmosphere.
... Interesting that the map has a spot here marked "Over Brewed." Now we wonder the significance, or typo, or feud with the old pub and their naming story is made up ??? ;)

  • Shamoli - Thai and Indian

    June 16, 2016 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Decent buffet for not outrageous prices; 9.95 (unlike the rest of what we were passing since the castle gate). Hit the spot and definitely liked having the masala tea. Also a nice, calm atmosphere for us to rest and me to warm up and let some pain killer kick in (talk about weird pharmacy/corner store selection - and Aleve/naproxen only with Rx!?!)Read more

  • St. Andrews

    June 16, 2016 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

St Andrews seems to be a lovely little vacationing town with an university. Situated on the North Sea, the old castle ruins overlook a rugged shoreline. Apparently the cathedral was once one of the most powerful and largest in Scotland. Now it's just some fantastic ruins. The overcast skies and occasional drizzle actually make for great photographs.Read more

  • Oshibori - Dundee, UK

    June 16, 2016 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Sushi in Scotland?!? Well we did try and go to the bar attached to our hotel, but since they stop serving at 8:30 even with a much earlier arrival we just missed it. This place serves until 10:30, and is next door!!! The food, plating, ambience, and service were all really great!Read more
