We are now ready for our big adventure.

  • Dubai Airport

    20. august 2023, Forenede Arabiske Emirater ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

After 17 hours of flying, we are now sitting in the lounge waiting for our flight to Paris.
We didn't get much sleep, so we are feeling rather tired. We had dinner and breakfast on the plane. We are due to have another breakfast on our next flight.
It's rather warm in Dubai 33 degrees, I am grateful It's not that hot in the airport. Dubai Airport is massive, and it's a silent airport, which means no notifications. It will be interesting to see what happens when our flight is due to board.

  • Paris

    20. august 2023, Frankrig ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

It is great to be back in Paris. What a shame we don't have the time to enjoy it. We arrived at our hotel just before 6 pm. We had a shower and a rest before heading out into Paris just to walk around and to find the train station.Læs mere

  • Day 1 of the Camino

    22. august 2023, Frankrig ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

St Jean Pied de Port to Orisson
Well, who would believe Lyn and I lost each other before we started the walk to Orisson today. After looking for her for 30 minutes, I decided I had better get going. The 8 k walk was a long slow slog of a climb and at 45 degrees angle, had loads of stops. The temperature was 32 degrees at 7.30 am this morning, but as I moved out of the town, the low cloud came. This helped to keep the temperature from rising to far.Læs mere

    23. august 2023, Frankrig ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

    Orisson to Burgutte
Left Orisson 7.15am. Sun hasn't risen yet.
What a long, hard, blistering slop of a 20k day. Going up was just as bad as going down. 31 degrees today.
We arrived in Burgutte shortly after 5pm, absolutely worn out.
I'm too tired to write anything in the photos.

Burgeute to Zubiri. Left at 7.20 am, and arrived in Zubiri at 5 pm.
It was another long, hard strunus day. It's too difficult to stop and take pictures to really give an idea of some of the terrain we covered.
The temperature got up to 40 degrees.
Lyn has heat stroke, so we have decided tomorrow will be a rest day.

  • Zubiri

    24. august 2023, Spanien ⋅ ⛅ 37 °C

Arrived in Zubiri, exhausted, it has been a very challenging day. An 18 k hike that has taken all of our energy, we were so pleased when we finally reached our destination.

  • Day 4

    25. august 2023, Spanien ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

    Rest day in Zubiri.
Staying in the same Albergue, it was wonderful to have a lie in until 8 am. We walked around the village this morning and then rested this afternoon.

    Zubiri to Trinidad de Arre
Left 6.20am and arrived at Trinidad at 2pm. 7.5 hour hike today.
Another scorching hot day but not as hot as the last 2 days. We left in the dark, and Lyn used her phone torch to navigate the uneven scoria. We had some pleasant walking paths along the riverbank as well as some hard climbing up and down.Læs mere

  • Day 6

    27. august 2023, Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

    Trinidad de Arre/Pamplona to Uterga
Left 8am arrived in Pampanga at 9.30am and at Uterga 12.30pm.
We had out ponchos on as we left Arre, and it certainly felt a lot cooler, thank goodness. It rained off and on as we made it into Pamplona. Went to 10 am mass at the cathedral it is very Gothic. It was still raining when we came out and because it was a Sunday everything was closed. We decided we would take a taxi to get us to the steepest point and then make our way down the invlibe to Utergia BUT the taxi driver to us way past where we wanted to go and so we got him to take us back to where we intended to stop. The taxi trip wasn't cheap but wait, there's more. I can't sit down with my cell in my pocket, and I bet you can guess what happened, yep, left the cell in the taxi, which cost $$$$s for them to bring it to me. Dam, I should have brought my small kiwi bag, but now I have to find another way to carry it, the pockets in my shirts are too small. But the lesson is learned. We are in a comfortable Elbergue with 18 others in our room tonight.Læs mere

  • Day 7

    28. august 2023, Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

    Uterga to Cirauqui - 14.5k
Left at 7 am, we arrived at 12.15pm.
It certainly was an easier walk today, 1, it was overcast most of the way, and 2, only a couple of steep inclines. We had the odd sprinkle of rain but never needed our ponchos. There was also a lovely cool breeze as we climbed.Læs mere

  • Day 8

    29. august 2023, Spanien ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Cirauqui to Villamayor de Monjardin - 23ks
    Left 6.45am arrived at 2pm
As you can see, it was dark when we left Cirauqui the terrain was reasonably flat and so we made good time. With it being cooler, it certainly helps, and because we intended a longer hike, we had our bags transported. Again, we only had a sprinkle of rain. This made a huge difference to our speed of travelling. We saw fields of 🌻 but they were all dry and ready for harvesting.
We had a lovely time in Estella, then we went to the wine fountain, yuck!!! I don't particularly like red wine. Villamayor de Monjardon is a pretty village set up on the hillside.
