  • Day 17

    September 7, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Left Atapuerca 7am walked for about 10 minutes, then realised we had both left our walking poles at where we stayed, so we walked back to collect before starting out again around 7.20 am. We hope we don't do that again. arrived in Burgos at 12.30 pm.
We only had a couple of small climbs that, in theory, shouldn't have been that difficult, but the terrain that made it difficult. I am hoping the pics will give an idea of what we were walking on. On the outskirts of Burgos, we caught a local bus that dropped us off at the city centre. We are spending 2 days here, and this afternoon, we spent nearly 2 hours going through the cathedral, Spains second larges. Because it's Lynette's birthday she decided we should have some luxury so we are in a cheap hotel, what heaven. Early this evening, we went on a walk around Burgos, like we need any more walking. 😅

  • Day 18

    September 8, 2023 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

A day to look around Burgos. Even though we woke at 6 am, we lay in bed until 7.30 a.m., and it was wonderful not to get up in the dark. We had a leisurely breakfast with a cup of ordinary tea with cold, oh, what heaven. An ordinary cup of tea is something we have both missed.
We took a train ride around the town.

  • Last shots of Burgos on Lyn's birthday

    September 8, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Had a lovely walk along the riverbank this afternoon after a little siesta. The shade of the trees made it easy to walk in.
We enjoyed having a glass of wine while we people watched, and only 2€, a glass, cheap. There are a lot of dogs, mostly small breeds, a few beggars too. The local women appear to dress very smartly. We are having Japanese for dinner, the only place serving food before 8pm.Read more

Usually, we are hiking up to accommodation, but today, it's down.
The sandwich I ordered for lunch was huge. We learnt today a salad is considered as vegetables in this village.
An interesting observation on our journey is that there is no old cars.
We had a lovely community dinner with Paella with salad and a yummy lemon dish for desert.

We found a Korean Albergue and restaurant that allowed us to have dinner there. We had heard there was a wonderful Korean restaurant on the Camino, and we had forgotten where it was, so we were thrilled to accidentally find it.Read more

There was a threat of thunderstorms for today, and even though we heard the rumbles and had the odd drops of rain, we managed to get to our accommodation before the thunderstorms actually hit.
The first 5 ks was a beautiful, easy walk along the canal, the next 10 ks we walked along side of a canal but the path was uneven to walk on, but the last 5 ks was much easier.
The village is also very quiet with no one around.
For the first time in days, we saw a small herd of sheep.

Left as usual in the dark, lost our way getting out. The terrain is flat, but the pathway is very stoney and rough.
Arrived at Ledigos cold so called in at the closest Cafe for a coffee. While there, we chatted to a couple of women, one of whom had a knee problem and were looking at ways to get to Sahagun. So we shared the cost of taxi. This has given us a lovely time to have a good look around.
We have to look at how many days we have left to finish the Camino and how to manage our time, so watch this space.
The pics of this old church is amazing. We received our halfway certificate.

What a day to take a ride as it is an overcast day, ideal for walking.
After arriving in Leon, we had a down pour, but we're lucky enough to shelter under a cafe's umbrella.
We had another trip on a tourist train, which we thoroughly enjoyed and kept us dry. It's a strange thing to say but we enjoy seeing the shops.

We are spending the night in a Convent.
