    Esher
    We are staying with Michael's sister, Sue, who lives in Esher, South of London.
    She looks after her son's French dog, Mr Hamilton, when necessary. We took Mr Hamilton for a couple of short walks today in between the rain. Even though it's a wet, miserable day, it certainly isn't very cold, just a bit breezey.
    Sue took us to Sainsbury's in Cobham a short distance down the road. Wow!!! What a store, huge, massive, it has everything you can think of.
    Later in the afternoon, we had a 5 minute walk down to Garsons Farm shop, now that is a shop like no other. Have a look at their web site: www.garsons.co.uk    Weiterlesen

    Esher/Portsmouth/Poole
    Temperature: 9 degrees this morning, high of 13 degrees today .
    Left Esher 9.30am, arrived Portsmouth 11am (driving rain). Back to Esher at 5pm.
    Woke to a clear day, and it looks a little breezy but no rain. By the time we arrived at Portsmouth, the rain was pouring, and we went to the Old Historical Shipyard before continuing onto Poole. We pulled over into a layby and had our lunch before driving into Poole. The rain had stopped, thank goodness. Parked the car and had a walk around the waterside. We found the Poole crockey studio shop, I'm sad to say I wasn't that impressed, but I did see the turquoise and grey jug that I have, which belonged to Michael's mum.
    We did try and get a tour of the Royal National Lightboat Institution (RNLI), but they were doing maintenance today, so we missed out.
    It rained all the way back to Esher, but we did see a beautiful rainbow.    Weiterlesen

    Temperature: 8 degrees this morning, with a high of 13 degrees.
    Showers with some fine periods.
    Went shopping at Sainsbury's, then came back, unpacked the groceries, and then took Mr Hamilton for a walk. I love to see the autumn colours.
    Spent the rest of the day knitting socks. I brought wool across in case there was time.    Weiterlesen

    Temperature: 9 degrees this morning and a high of 13 degrees.
    What a beautiful fine day, just the breeze a bit chilly. We were able to have a decent long walk today. The footpaths are thick with the autumn leaves.Spent the rest of the day, pottering around the house, Michael did some painting and touch-up jobs for Sue, and I managed to finish one sock.
    Went to the local pub to see what it was like.
    Sue's son Michael and his wife Jo invited us for roast chicken dinner tonight 😋

    A beautiful autumn day.
    Had a lovely day out. Went to Shoreham and visited the RNLI, then onto Brighton before returning.

    Esher/Cobham
    Temperature: 6 degrees high today was 12 degrees.
    It started off as another beautiful autumn day, and we managed an hours walk. Sadly, after lunch, the grey clouds came back, and it was chilly again with rain threatening.
    We went to Cobham this morning and had a lovely walk around the shops. It is a very pretty village.
    This afternoon, we booked our trip to Leeds for the end of next week. Sunny Bank Mills is not too far from there. Excited at the prospect of visiting where they film, The Great British Sewing Bee.
    Spent the rest of the afternoon, knitting my second sock and looking through Daphne's Diary. It's what I bought for Sue's birthday it arrived a couple of days ago. She and I will both read it.😅

    Esher/Claygate
    Temperature: 9 degrees this morning with a high of 13 degrees, but it certainly didn't feel like it.
    It was a wet, cold, miserable day, but we still went out for an hours walk in the morning. Went through a few private roads where there we some huge houses, sorry didn't take my phone, too wet.
    Went to Claygate another pretty village to see the Rememberance decoration on top of the postbox, gorgeous.
    This afternoon, we went round to Sue's friend Ann for a knitting session and a cuppa.

    Esher
    Temperature: 8 degrees this morning with a high of 9 degrees.
    Went for pur walk early to beat the rain, and luckily enough, the rain only started when we were nearly back. 8 degrees might not sound that cold, but it felt like ice.
    Grocery shopping today at Sainsbury's before going to Garsons for lunch to celebrate Sue's birthday.
    Tonight went out to a Chinese place in Esher for dinner with Sue's son and wife, Jo.

    Temperature: 7 degrees this morning with a high of 9 degrees.
    Caught the train up to London this morning.
    Spent 2.5 hours at Churchill Bunker, what an amazing place. Because it was so cold, we headed back to Waterloo Station, where we had lunch at Costa. After lunch, we managed to find out all the information for our other travels coming up, and where Michael catches the train on Sunday for the Rememberance Parade.
    We caught the train back to Esher, and by the time we arrived 3pm, the street lights were on.
    While in London today, we noticed a large number of police around on foot and horseback. The streets already have barricades up in place for Sunday for the Rememberance march.    Weiterlesen

    Temperature: 2 degrees at 8 am and a high of 10 degrees.
    Beautiful autumn day.
    We had a lovely time out today. It took us just over an hour to get to Sussex to Weald and Download Living Museum. This is where the film The Repair Shop is filmed. The living museum is a huge place, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Loved the ride through the countryside and all the villages.

    Temperature: 5 degrees this morning and with a high of 9 degrees.
    Thank goodness it was nowhere near as cold this morning, but it has been an overcast miserable day. I guess yesterday's chill gave us an idea of what it's going to be like when we go on our trip to the Christmas Markets in Europe. Sue and I went for a walk after taking Michael to the train station to catch a train to London for the Rememberance Day March. Spent the rest of the day watching the parade on TV and knitting another pair of socks, nothing else to do.
    There is a storm coming, so we won't be going anywhere in the next couple of days.    Weiterlesen

    Temperature: 14 degrees this morning with a high of 15 degrees.
    Today, Michael and I went back to Portsmouth to the Historical Shipyard. We spent almost 3 hours looking through it. There were not many people there today, just a couple of school groups so easy to see the exhibits.

    Temperature; 8 degrees this morning and with a high of 12 degrees.
    Michael and I trained in Waterloo, and then went off to Greenwich while I spent the day walking the streets of London. Even though the sun was out, there was no sun on the streets, and there was a chilly breeze. I had to run back to meet Michael at Waterloo Station in time to catch the train back to Sue's. We both had a great day out doing our own thing.

    Temperature: 2 degrees this morning at 7.30 am with a high of 9 degrees.

    Today, Sue, along with her 2 friends, went to a beautiful quaint village of Shere. The road through Shere is very narrow. There was a small fabric shop stuffed with gorgeous goodies. We spent over an hour in the fabric shop we headed to the local pub for lunch before driving back to Esher. A wonderful day out.

    Esher to Leeds
    Temperature: 11 degrees at 7am, with a high of 12 degrees in Leeds at 4 pm.

    We had 3 changes to get to Leeds today, and it didn't start off well. Firstly, we received a message from Esher to say there could be delays on our line this morning, but luckily, it was okay. Then, just as we were getting on at, Esher received a message to say our train going to Leeds had been cancelled. Shit!!!! We then had to wait until we were off the Esher train got through the underground to Kings Cross to the help desk to see what our options were. The anxiety was high for a while. But, it all worked out okay, and we arrived safe and sound in Leeds.
    We had a short walk around the streets, loved looking at the old buildings.
    There are pubs literally on every corner, so we'll try one everyday we are here.

    Leeds/Manchester
    Temperature: 8 degrees this morning and a high of 8 degrees.

    Had a walk around before coming back to our accommodation for our Continental breakfast that was included in our accommodation.
    Caught the 9.30 am bus to Manchester that arrived 11.40 am, 30 minutes late due to a traffic jam.
    Meet up with Wendy and Fred, a couple we met on a cruise 8 years ago. We had a lovely time together walking around the Christmas Markets before having lunch and catching up on what we've both been up to over the years since we last met.
    We caught the 3.30 pm train back to Leeds, and it was dark by 3.30pm. When we arrived at 4.30pm, it felt like 7 pm in NZ winter.

    Leeds/Sunny Bank Mills
    Temperature: 8 degrees this morning and with a high of 8 degrees. It was a cold, wet day.

    Off for our morning walk, overcast, chilly but no rain.
    Caught the bus to Sunny Bank Mills today to visit where they film The Great British Sewing Bee. What an experience, I found it very emotional. They don't normally allow the public to view it, but they made an exception when I told them I had come from NZ to see it. Spent a good couple of hours, wondering around the mills.
    Another lovely feeling was when we were on the bus to Sunny Bank Mills, Farley, we went through the village where my paternal grandmother was born, how special is that.

    Temperature: A warm 12 degrees with a high of 8 degrees. No sun again today, the wind was chilling.

    Caught the train to York today. Had a lovely time wandering around the Shambles and up and the the streets. Saw a great deal more on the Hop On Hop Off bus, and it was nice and warm there too. By 2pm the day started to close in, so trained back to Leeds.

    Temperature: A chilly 5 degrees at 8 am. A high of 12 degrees.

    When we left Leeds first thing the sun had come through but sadly it deteriorated as we got closer to London. It was lovely and warm on the train.
    We arrived in London around 11 am. and then caught the underground to Piccadilly Circus. We walked through Green Park to Buckingham Palace up The Mall, past the Westminister Abbey, Houses of Parliament, through Victoria Gardens over Lambeth Bridge and along to Waterloo Station where we had a late lunch 2 pm at Pret A Manger before catching the train back to Esher. The sun did come out in London for a while, but the strong breeze made it bitterly cold. The autumn leaves over the ground look beautiful. London was hectic as they had a Black Friday sale.
