Journey down the Mekong River (2/2)

Our second day on the Mekong River took us further into Laos aboard a traditional cargo barge, similar to many others navigating the river. In this region, where roads are in poor condition, the Mekong serves as the main transport route for people and goods.

To our surprise, the barge was mostly filled with tourists, brought to the pier by travel agency vans. Local passengers were few, likely due to the high ticket price of 400,000 kip per person. Inside, old car seats were set up as passenger chairs, adding a unique charm to the trip. Snacks and drinks were available onboard, though sitting near the rear of the boat by the engine was very loud — definitely not the best spot for a relaxing cruise! Luckily, we managed to get seats at the front, making the long journey much more comfortable.
