Bangkok, the first city of a six-month journey, is full of energy and contrasts … and the up e last day of the “Awakening Bangkok” festival turned Phra Nakhon, a fascinating district, into a magical space filled with light installations by artists from around the world. Similar to Gdańsk’s “NARRACJE” festival, the event transformed the city streets with art and light.Læs mere

  • Bang Nam Phueng🌳 - floating island

    19. november 2024, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 33 °C

Visited Bang Nam Phueng, a less-touristy area in Bangkok. Getting there was an adventure: took the metro, then motorbike taxis (one per person), followed by a ferry across the Chao Phraya River. Rented bikes to explore the beautiful park and peaceful surroundings. Ventured off the main paths into narrow canals where locals live on nearly submerged lands, accessible only by these waterways. The challenging ride was rewarded with a stunning sunset view over the river. Interestingly, the community here is known for producing honey, adding a sweet touch to their way of life.Læs mere

Attended a Muay Thai event at Rajadamnern Stadium in Bangkok—an intense and thrilling experience! Before each match, fighters performed the Wai Khru Ram Muay, a traditional dance to honor their trainers and heritage. The fights were brutal and captivating, showcasing incredible skill and resilience. Tickets ranged from 1,500 to 3,500 Thai Baht, depending on seating choice. Absolutely worth it for an authentic glimpse into Thai culture and martial arts.

  • Crazy road to Pai 🛣️

    25. november 2024, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Leaving Chiang Mai behind, the journey to Pai began — a challenging ride through 762 sharp mountain curves, climbing to an altitude of 1,300 meters. Plans were delayed due to time spent searching for a lost ATM card. As a result, departure happened much later than expected, turning the trip into a night ride through winding, crazy, dark roads. Thanks to Maciek’s excellent driving skills, the journey went smoothly despite the tough conditions. However, reaching Pai made every effort worthwhile. From the first moments, its laid-back, hippie vibe captivated completely, inviting total immersion into its unique atmosphere🤩

PS. Despite few hostels that we had to visit to find available room for us (together with the hostel owner on the motorbike😆)

A day spent exploring Pai is unforgettable. The town’s cozy cafes offer stunning views and are filled with backpackers. One must-see spot is Pai Canyon, known for its unique rock formations and breathtaking scenery. Pai Canyon was formed by natural erosion over the years, creating narrow paths and deep valleys. The best time to visit is at sunset, when travelers gather to relax, chat, and watch the sky turn into magical shades of orange and pink. The atmosphere in Pai is truly out of this world. The highlight of Pai is its night market, held every evening. It’s the best place to taste incredible street food — some say it’s the best in all of Thailand!Læs mere

  • Into the jungle 🌴 Hua Chang Waterfall

    27. november 2024, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Hua Chang Waterfall is a hidden gem, remote and rarely visited. The journey starts with a bumpy dirt road winding through quiet villages, leading to the beginning of a jungle trek. We crossed the river seven times, so wearing sandals is a must, as parts of the trail run directly through the water. Locals advise bringing a sturdy stick — wild cows sometimes roam the area.

The jungle is stunning — dense, green, and alive with nature’s sounds. The narrow path is clearly marked, making the trek both exciting and manageable. When we finally reached the waterfall, we had it all to ourselves. The entire trip took about 4 hours, offering a peaceful escape deep into nature. Surrounded by endless greenery and the sounds of the jungle, it was the perfect way to disconnect and recharge.

  • From Ban Rak Thai to hidden Ban Ja Bo

    29. november 2024, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

We visited Ban Rak Thai, a charming Chinese-style village with a scenic lake at its center. Though picturesque, it felt too touristy, so we decided to keep moving. Leaving the main road led us to Ban Ja Bo, a tiny mountain village far from the tourist trail.

The evening in Ban Ja Bo was just as magical. Locals gathered in their half-open wooden homes, talking, laughing loudly, and enjoying each other’s company. We also made friends with a sweet little girl from the village, adding a warm, personal touch to our stay.

  • BeBe Wok 'n' Roll Thai Cooking Class

    1. december 2024, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

We returned to Pai for a day at BeBe’s Wok ‘n’ Roll Thai Cooking Class. Our teacher has worked in top restaurants around the world, and her passion for cooking made the experience truly special.

We mastered not only the famous Pad Thai, but also rich and flavorful Massaman Curry❤️, sticky rice, papaya salad, and even morning glory salad. The class lasted nearly the whole day, with a well-timed break in the middle to digest all the delicious food we’d cooked (and eaten!).

The day ended with a fun party shared with our fellow cooking classmates. Great food, great company, and lots of laughs 😁 Plus, we got all the recipes in a cute booklet, so we can recreate these amazing dishes at home📖

  • Goodbye Thai ( for now🙃)

    2. december 2024, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

It’s time to say farewell to Pai. We returned our trusty scooter in Chiang Mai, hopped on a bus, and began the 650 km journey to the Thai-Laos border at Huay Xai.

With our wallets nearly empty (we spent the last of our Thai baht), we’re ready to explore Laos and see what adventures await. A new country, new culture, and new experiences are just around the corner!Læs mere

  • Hello Lao 🇱🇦 first stop: Huay Xao

    3. december 2024 ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Arriving in Laos felt like stepping into a completely different world. Life moves slower here, and the contrast with Thailand is striking — from the quieter streets to the warm, laid-back locals.

Our first stop, Huay Xai, sits right on the mighty Mekong River and immediately charmed us so much that we decided to stay an extra day. The town’s colonial-era architecture is fascinating — grand, now crumbling French villas stand as silent reminders of the country’s colonial past. A beautiful, though bittersweet, glimpse into Laos’ complex history.

We can’t wait to explore more of this unique and enchanting country.

  • Wat Jom Khao Manylath and theLost wallet

    4. december 2024, Laos ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Our visit to the beautiful Wat Jom Khao Manylath in Huay Xai turned into an unexpected adventure. We somehow lost our wallet near the temple — with all our cards and money inside. Panic set in, but luckily, the local monks came to our rescue. Despite the language barrier, they were incredibly kind and eager to help. After some searching, we managed to get the wallet back, untouched!

Laotians have amazed us with their honesty and warmth. Their currency, counted in millions of kip, still confuses us, but locals are always happy to help calculate the right amount with a smile. We’ve already fallen in love with this country!

  • Journey down the Mekong River (1/2)

    5. december 2024, Laos ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

We set off from Huay Xai on a two-day boat trip down the majestic Mekong River, spending the night in the small village of Pakbeng. As we sailed between Thailand (on the right) and Laos (on the left), we saw how local life revolves around the river. Villages stretch across both shores, and the national border seems to mean little to the people living there.

The Mekong’s banks are a mix of steep green hills, empty sandy beaches, and herds of wild cows relaxing in the sun. The river itself is fast and powerful, full of swirling currents, and its water is a reddish-brown, colored by the surrounding earth.

The Mekong is one of the longest rivers in the world, flowing over 4,900 km through 6 (!) countries and supporting millions of people in Southeast Asia. Unfortunately, existing and planned dams on the Mekong cause serious environmental damage. Laos’ plan to become the “Battery of Asia” is likely driven by Chinese interests, as China profits the most from these energy projects.

  • Journey down the Mekong River (2/2)

    6. december 2024, Laos ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Our second day on the Mekong River took us further into Laos aboard a traditional cargo barge, similar to many others navigating the river. In this region, where roads are in poor condition, the Mekong serves as the main transport route for people and goods.

To our surprise, the barge was mostly filled with tourists, brought to the pier by travel agency vans. Local passengers were few, likely due to the high ticket price of 400,000 kip per person. Inside, old car seats were set up as passenger chairs, adding a unique charm to the trip. Snacks and drinks were available onboard, though sitting near the rear of the boat by the engine was very loud — definitely not the best spot for a relaxing cruise! Luckily, we managed to get seats at the front, making the long journey much more comfortable.

At sunset, we finally arrived in Luang Prabang🙂

  • First Impressions of Luang Prabang

    7. december 2024, Laos ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Our first evening in Luang Prabang started with a walk through the night market, famous for its handmade crafts and street food. Amid the colorful stalls, we were shocked to see young children begging or sitting on the sidewalk selling fruit late into the night. Sadly, child labor and poverty are still common in Laos, where many families struggle to make a living.

It was a powerful reminder that behind the country’s breathtaking landscapes and rich culture lies a reality marked by hardship — something easy to overlook as a traveler.

  • Journey to Vang Vieng 🫣

    8.–9. dec. 2024, Laos ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

We left Luang Prabang and headed to Vang Vieng, but since we couldn’t get train tickets, we opted for the much cheaper public bus — a perfect chance to experience real Lao transport. After a 3-hour delay, the driver finally appeared. While we anxiously asked about departure every hour, the local passengers waited patiently without complaint.

Once on board, the bus was packed with at least 5 extra people, squeezed onto plastic stools in the aisle. The 185 km journey took 5 long hours over bumpy, winding mountain roads. Compared to this, even Poland’s worst country roads feel like highway luxury!

Sleep was impossible — at one point, a Lao man fell asleep on my shoulder, while a woman behind me dug her foot into my hip for half the ride. After this experience, I swear I’ll never complain about public transport in Poland again!

During our stay in Vientiane, we visited the serene Wat Sok Pa Luang, known for its meditation sessions held every Saturday and Sunday. It’s a unique opportunity to meet with monks, ask them about life in the temple, and learn more about Buddhist teachings.

After the talk, everyone practices mindfulness together, guided by the monks in a peaceful and supportive environment. If you ever find yourself in Vientiane, I highly recommend visiting this special place!
