Mexico - San Cristobal

Chic colonial town in the middle of the mountains with lots of arts, great local coffee and hot choc, expats and amazing international food. Walked the streets up and down, checked plaza mayor with its beautiful kiosk that has live music at night where old people dance. Lots of catedrals and churches, everyone was very excited from the visit of the pope Francis, faith is in the air. Got sick from food in Mazunte and from the cold in town so couldn't enjoy the food too much but still had a few bites as soon as it was possible! Many grafitis on the wall from the movement of the zapatistas, a rebel group that fights for the rights of people of Chiapas (the poorest state that gets nothing) as well as for aboriginals, for their customs, health and education. Started the revolution in 84 and are still very powerful. The city of San Juan Chamulas has their own laws, they don't obey the government and still have lots of rituals and old customs, they don't love gringos.
