    Dublin Ha'penny Bridge

    January 15, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 4 °C

The Ha'penny Bridge is a cast iron pedestrian bridge over the Liffey in Dublin that was built in 1816. Officially called the Leffey Bridge, the bridge owes its nickname to its history. You had to pay half a Penny to cross this bridge.

Opened in 1816, the bridge was the only pedestrian bridge across the river until 2000. The bridge was closed between 2001 and 2003 for a thorough renovation.

This bridge is the symbol of Dublin and about 30,000 people cross it for free every day.
