    In the afternoon we visited a second hand shop and we took a drink at a restaurant and spent the afternoon strolling through the busy streets and alleys. In the evening we took a beer at a nice restaurant with opportunity to sit right along the Westlake.     At our hotel we refreshed ourselves a bit and then we went shopping in Hoi An. Much traffic ('motormice') and so many shops here, but they all look-a-like with what they sell.     We sat down at a restaurant near the river. I had a peach tea and something to eat. Then a very old Vietnamese lady came to me while I was sitting there. She looked a bit like E.T. and sold us a banana. She kissed my hand and gently pulled my ear and laughed. I think she liked me. I persisted on visiting the old red Japanese bridge. When we found it, it was a bit disappointing. I had expected more of it.They asked money to cross the bridge.     We also came along a travel agency shop and we stepped in to ask information about means to get to Nha Trang. It was possible to go by train but we had to leave the same evening. A taxi would pick us up at the hotel and bring us to the train station of Da Nang. It meant that we wouldn't stay the night at our hotel so when we came back we informed the lady of the homestay about our plans. In the evening we bought some food and drinks for the next day. While we sat waiting in front of the homestay suddenly the boy from the travel agency shop appeared on a motor. I had forgotten my hat and he came to return it. Not so long after that the taxi drove up and our 'train adventure' was about to begin. There was a little rain when we reached the station and just before the train arrived it began to pour.     From Da Nang to Nha Trang

    Our 'train adventure'. When the doors opened from the waiting room to the train platforms we all rushed out over the rails to get into the train. It was all a bit chaotic. My sister hurt her arm and leg while getting into the train because she fell with her suitcase as she stepped in. People carried their luggage with them and some of them were very heavy. It was an old train and it looked like the curtains hadn't been changed since World War 2. The start of our journey was not so bad though. Anneke immediately wanted to change to another seat but we stayed on our allocated seats for a while longer. Night fell and people began to sleep. At a certain moment there were drops falling down from the luggage placed above Anneke's seat. It smelt like fish. Then we moved to another place. A lot of people were hanging with their head or feet over the corridor. I saw some shriveled bare feet of old Vietnamese hanging over the walkway. The nighttrain moved on.Baca selengkapnya

    From Da Nang to Nha Trang

    Strange to prepare yourself to go to sleep in a train. Brushing your teeth and visiting the toilet one last time before sleeping time. We tried to sleep but it was hard doing that in a seat. After a few hours Anneke returned from a toilet visit. She was so appalled. It was a big mess up there she told me. The toilet was running over and there was toilet paper lying in the toilet and all over the floor! Also there was an awful smell of urine and on top of that you couldn't close the door! No, this we couldn't have imagined before. Luckily there was light coming from outside. Morning came and the marvellous views from the train made us forget the hardships from our train journey.Baca selengkapnya

    Nha Trang

    Passing the time in Nha Trang. First we went to a shopping mall around the corner close to the hotel. I had some American dollars left in my pocket but they wouldn't change them so we had to find an ATM but that was not so easy. All the ATM's were to be found around the train station. We wanted to go to the beach ('bien') and stepped into the bus (line 6). In the bus they played loud music and every time it came close to a bus stop there was a sound like an alarm.     Nha Trang Ponagar Towers

    Another important and worthseeing place, the Ponagar Towers.

    The Po Nagar Towers is one of the many relics of the Champa Kingdom, which was the most significant power in South Vietnam from 200 - 1720 AD. The architectural complex of the ancient Ponagar Towers is the most unique symbol of the long-standing culture of the Cham people.

    Built between the 7th and 12th centuries, these four Cham Towers are still actively used for worship by Cham, Chinese and Vietnamese Buddhists.

    Every year, the locals organize the Thap Ba (Ponagar) Festival from March 20th to the 23rd according to the lunar calendar to praise the merits of Thien Y Thanh Mau Ana, the Goddess who reclaimed new lands, kept the race alive, found the rice and taught the local people to cultivate and make handicraft products.

    Nha Trang Lily Apartment

    The room was a bit small but had all you needed. In the evening we went to the shopping mall close by. It was very busy there and outside a lot of people were having a barbeque. They were celebrating the 30th year of existance of the store chain I think. After that we walked along the streets. We had a rat that fled away right before our feet.     While walking through the streets at night we came along this temple. There was a big white statue inside the complex. It was one of the many temples we have seen here in Vietnam.     From Nha Trang to Da Nang

    Today we say goodbye to Lily and go on to our next domestic flight (our third) that will take us back to Da Nang again. This time we will pay a visit at Ba Na Hills Sunworld entertainment park. My sister wanted to see the 'golden bridge' and I am very excited about the 'french village'. So, plenty to look forward to. At Lily's they don't serve breakfast. We can check out and go to the airport. Near the airport we came along Golden Bay City complex with newly built houses.
