• Kołobrzeg Day 1

    April 3 in Poland ⋅ 🌬 5 °C

Today was overcast and a bit rainy off and on and colder than I am used to! It got warmer in Berlin, but I needed all the layers again today! I did forget my gloves and I will have to make sure to grab them tomorrow as my hands froze. It was windy and that made it colder (said it was 6, but felt like -2!). But we still enjoyed our wanders.

We got up and wandered to spy on some bakeries in the north of the city, but they were so busy! Huge lines that took forever to move so we didn’t get anything there, but did find some treats at the grocery stores! First was a mini rhubarb pie which was so sweet you lost the rhubarb flavor and also odd as the crust was bread! Not bad, but not amazing either.

Then we went to spy on the cemetery just outside town and that was really interesting. Lots of these round places where ashes are interned, lots of candles and flowers, and by the graves there were so many small benches! Most of the graves had a small bench placed there as well which I haven’t seen to this extent before. There were a lot of people out tidying their loved ones graves and it was nice wandering around.

We then wandered towards home and we did stop at another bakery as I thought maybe since it is later it will be less busy…but it was not. I did wait in line for a few minutes, but everyone took forever (I’m not sure why, but it was taking forever) and figured it would be at least an hour before I would get to the front of the line and I didn’t feel like waiting that long. We might try and go back tomorrow morning and see if it is still crazy busy, or we might just say never mind. I wonder if they are always this busy? Or is it the Easter weekend? We didn’t spy on these ones last time, but it feels like it is because it’s Easter weekend!

I did stop at another discount grocery to spy on their treats. I had wandered down there yesterday while Raymond was in class (they have a few things were like to bring home with us so I thought I could get them while he was busy) and saw these horn shaped treats, but the price said 7,99 and I thought 8 euro is way too expensive for a pastry like that! Then when I was walking home I realized oh wait, it’s not euros or is zloty which is much cheaper then (only 1.87) so I got one today (the top one) which was filled with a walnut paste and also what turned out to be like a pancake donut! Both were super good! Surprisingly good, especially for the discount grocery store!

Then back to our place to relax, ordered thai food for dinner which sad very tasty, then a wick walk around the marina. After dinner it was so much warmer out as it wasn’t windy! And it started clearing up some so hopefully tomorrow it is sunnier! It’s still supposed to be windy, but we are just exploring town some more.
