    Kołobrzeg Arrival

    April 2 in Poland ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

We decided to come up to the Polish coast for the long Easter weekend (Friday and Monday are holidays in Germany, though we are going back on Sunday as Raymond is on call on Monday). We headed up to Kołobrzeg again as they had lots of delicious foods! We started at a different place which had great views (first two photos)!

Raymond is taking German classes and he had class tonight so I went for a little wander while he was doing that and it was so nice out! Plus someone put a scarf on the bird by the marina! And then ordered and are way too many pierogis as they are so tasty!

  • Kołobrzeg Day 1

    April 3 in Poland ⋅ 🌬 5 °C

Today was overcast and a bit rainy off and on and colder than I am used to! It got warmer in Berlin, but I needed all the layers again today! I did forget my gloves and I will have to make sure to grab them tomorrow as my hands froze. It was windy and that made it colder (said it was 6, but felt like -2!). But we still enjoyed our wanders.

We got up and wandered to spy on some bakeries in the north of the city, but they were so busy! Huge lines that took forever to move so we didn’t get anything there, but did find some treats at the grocery stores! First was a mini rhubarb pie which was so sweet you lost the rhubarb flavor and also odd as the crust was bread! Not bad, but not amazing either.

Then we went to spy on the cemetery just outside town and that was really interesting. Lots of these round places where ashes are interned, lots of candles and flowers, and by the graves there were so many small benches! Most of the graves had a small bench placed there as well which I haven’t seen to this extent before. There were a lot of people out tidying their loved ones graves and it was nice wandering around.

We then wandered towards home and we did stop at another bakery as I thought maybe since it is later it will be less busy…but it was not. I did wait in line for a few minutes, but everyone took forever (I’m not sure why, but it was taking forever) and figured it would be at least an hour before I would get to the front of the line and I didn’t feel like waiting that long. We might try and go back tomorrow morning and see if it is still crazy busy, or we might just say never mind. I wonder if they are always this busy? Or is it the Easter weekend? We didn’t spy on these ones last time, but it feels like it is because it’s Easter weekend!

I did stop at another discount grocery to spy on their treats. I had wandered down there yesterday while Raymond was in class (they have a few things were like to bring home with us so I thought I could get them while he was busy) and saw these horn shaped treats, but the price said 7,99 and I thought 8 euro is way too expensive for a pastry like that! Then when I was walking home I realized oh wait, it’s not euros or is zloty which is much cheaper then (only 1.87) so I got one today (the top one) which was filled with a walnut paste and also what turned out to be like a pancake donut! Both were super good! Surprisingly good, especially for the discount grocery store!

Then back to our place to relax, ordered thai food for dinner which sad very tasty, then a wick walk around the marina. After dinner it was so much warmer out as it wasn’t windy! And it started clearing up some so hopefully tomorrow it is sunnier! It’s still supposed to be windy, but we are just exploring town some more.

  • Kołobrzeg Day 2

    April 4 in Poland ⋅ 🌬 8 °C

Today we woke up to a gorgeous day! It was really windy, but sunny so much warmer than yesterday overall. We wandered through town a bit and the bakeries were open, but not busy! Mostly because they didn’t have many things left, but we managed to get a few things to try. First was a poppy seed thing that had candied cherries in and then some mini babkas (like a vanilla cake) - both were pretty tasty! Then we went by a fancy bakery and found cinnamon rolls, cardamom rolls, and another poppy seed roll - all were amazing! We also got some basque cheesecake that we had last time that I thought was amazing…only it wasn’t as good as I had remembered. Still good, but not good enough to go back just for that. Oh well.

We wandered through town then were going to going to have lunch on the beach, but as we got closer it got super windy and cold so we ate back a bit, then wandered down to spy. Saw some kite surfers and I had originally planned to take a nice break there, but it was so windy the sand would be blowing in our face so not much fun. Just wandered and then came back to relax on our balcony a bit. Had some delicious pizza for dinner (onion, sun dried tomato, truffle oil and cheese - super tasty!), wandered a bit and watched the sunset from our place. Tongue another wander by the water and then off to home.

  • Kolobrzeg Final Day

    April 5 in Poland ⋅ 🌬 12 °C

Last day we woke up to gorgeous sunny weather! And not too windy! We packed up and parked by the beach and headed there to wander. We went down one way a bit, had a nice break, then headed back and had some lunch while enjoying the water. It was a little gusty so we had a bit of sand blown on us every once in a while, but it was much nicer than yesterday! I thought maybe we should have stayed today and we could have just hung out reading on the beach all afternoon! But after lunch we were relaxing and reading in no hurry to get home and then suddenly the wind picked up and it was a steady stream of sand blowing on us and the dark clouds were rolling in so we packed up and headed home. Worked out well as it was super quick to get home as there was no traffic as Monday is a holiday (so I am assuming most people stayed till then!). All in all a pretty nice weekend even if it was windier and colder than I expected!Read more
