    Miraflores, Lima

    May 21–23 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

We had a couple of easy chilled days and nights at the beginning of our trip, getting to know Miraflores and Barranco in Lima, also visiting the Museo Larco which had amazing, immaculate and highly sophisticated ceramics and textiles and beautiful gardens. We travelled around on local buses with locals stepping in to help when we got confused by the chaotic traffic, we walked along the Pacific side parks, met Paddington bear, had a relaxed brunch in Barranco and also admired the street art and colonial buildings in Barranco. We will be back soon for the musicRead more

  • Maras, Moray and Chincheros

    May 25 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Another highlight of the trip was the day we spent with Pancho, hiking down from a mountain village to the Inca sites of Maras, Moray and chinchero, it was eye opening to see the small rural community away from the tourist trail, the Inca sites were amazing and Pancho was an informed and enjoyable companion for the day. But the best moment of the day came when the restaurant owner in Chinero hugged us to thank us for coming - she obviously didn’t receive tourists. I wish I had taken a photo of her.Read more

  • Ollantaytambo

    May 26 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Our tickets for Machu Picchu having failed to appear from our Viator booking (and my contacts being unable to secure them at such late notice, we decided to avoid the whole tourist town of Aguas Calientes and instead took hikes and visited the various other Inca sites locally instead. We also loved our luxury tented hotelRead more

  • A day to take your breath away

    May 29 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

My trip to Rainbow mountain was both brilliant for the scenery and the wonderful people I met on the day, but also seriously challenging for the altitude. Despite having taken anti-altitude sickness pills, I felt so lightheaded throughout the day that I felt not unpleasantly, not completely there. The 45 minute walk up the mountain also felt like a hard run.Read more

  • A relaxing day visiting Santa Catarina Monastery

    Jun 3–6 in Peru ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

With the lovely guide Patricia we were thoroughly but briskly whisked through all
Of the important history of the monastery (actually a nunnery), which amazingly still operates as a closed order for nuns, though they now have mobile phones, instagram, tv and air fryers! Also play volley ball. In the past it sounded as if entry into the nunnery was a lucky escape from the tyranny of their fathers. The place is beautiful and also they make great fresh juices!Read more
