Aleko is who Mark calls a ‘guerrilla’ winemaker, meaning he makes ‘craft’ wine in an area filled with wine that is factory mass-produced. Super interesting guy who left Georgia for almost a decade, making a totally new life for himself in Malta. However he began to feel a call to come back home, determining that his country needed him more than he was enjoying his new life. Aleko is all about democratic freedom, and we discussed not just wine but the upcoming election in Georgia where the people will decide, provided the election is not (truly) rigged, to turn back towards Russian influence or continue to move towards Europe, the EU, and NATO.
