Bryce Canyon National Park Day 1

    March 15, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 0 °C

Snowy and chilly conditions made for a fun adventure in Bryce Canyon. We all hiked down to?? to view the Hoodoos up close. The hike down was easy but the hike back up switch backs was quite a work out!

A hot chocolate and coffee break was in order at the Lodge General Store to warm up before our drive to the summit at 9000 ft.

We hiked at the summit through a 1700 old Piney Grove forest. It was enchanting with the snow until we were ambushed by 3 little munchkins. This hike ranked in most folks top 2.

  • Zion National Park

    March 14, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Zion was the "greenest" park we went to thanks to the river running through it. It was a rainy day but we made the most of it hiking up to the Emerald Ponds with the "A" crew hiking across the Kenyanta trail. The mule deer and wild turkey added to the ambiance. It was too cold to hike the "Narrows" which was hiking down the river through the canyon but we hiked to the entrance. Chauncey really enjoued riding the shuttle in our ponchos🌧️Read more

  • Traveling Utah's Scenic Byway 12

    March 13, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

We traveled to Utah's southwest side via Scenic Byway 12 with a quick stop at Capitol Reef National Park then through the Grand Staircase National Monument. The views were diverse and spectacular. We did make a quick lunch stop in Green River at the Mexican Food Truck. Millie got a "hardware special🤣Read more

  • Canyonlands National Park

    March 12, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Addison's best planning mistake landed us in the Needles vs. Islands in the Sky section of Canyonlands. The "A" crew took an 11 mile quick paces hike to the Devils Kitchen and the B crew took a leisurely 6 mile hike to Chesler Park. It The weather was perfect and the scenery was an intreguing blend of magnificent needle rock formations along a backdrop of vast colorful mountains, canyons, and valleys.Read more

  • Arches National Park

    March 11, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Arches National Park was our first park and it did not disappoint. We had to wait 40min to get in the gate but it was worth the wait. We had a chilly picnic with a gorgeous view then headed.. The girls loved playing on the rocks and in the sandy soil hence Chauncey's new nick name for the younger 2 "Sandy Butt Cracks". The timing did not work out for the hike to the base of Delicate Arch but the hike to the viewpoint and back at sunset was a park highlight.Read more

  • Primitive Cabin Living

    March 10, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 9 °C

Our first cabin at La Sal Utah was off the grid 6 miles down a dirt road. The girls were nervous on the drive in but the view the next morning was worth it. The Solar Power only lasted a few minutes and required alternative lighting (gas and head lamps) to cook. WiFi and cellular service was a distant memory replaced by the very present crazy cat. Joe kept us cozy with a warm fire after chopping our own firewood. The girls loved the fireman pole and Scarlett worked up enough courage to go down our last morning.Read more

  • Packed and Ready

    March 9, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

Joe and Papa loaded the new cargo carrier with food for the entire week. Cooler on the back and dry goods on top. We will see if the smiles continue on day 2 of driving 26 hours.

On the long haul Joe found us a local dive outside Oklahoma City, The CowPoke, to eat dinner. We coined it the "SlowPoke" but it was tasty and cheap.Read more
