The hotel we're staying at for 2 nights pn South Pender Island. Due to last winter's storm damage, the road to get there is closed from 10 am to 2 pm daily for repairs. Hence, the stop for lunch on North Pender Island. After the road opened, we made our way there. First, we drove to the end of the road, to Gowland Point. After arriving at the hotel, the rain stopped just long enough for us to get into the pool.Read more

Hiking in the rain - oh joy! At least we had the rain gear for it. It didn't stop raining all day, so we just had to get on with it.
We had JO'S Nordic walking poles and the trails were mostly flat, even a bit of boardwalk, so we were good to go. The main things to see in the park, after the ocean and aquatic wildlife, of course, are chocolate lilies and blue Camas flowers. They were there in abundance. We'd never seen chocolate lilies before - didn't even know about them.Read more

    April 26, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Last morning - back to North Pender for breakfast - to beat the 10 am road closure. The best place for breakfast: Slow Coast Coffee. It was so good. It's the sort of place where everyone knows everyone else - except us, but we were warmly welcomed in by everyone anyway. JO C thoroughly enjoyed her Masala Dosa, while I liked my extremely large scone. Great coffee, too.
After that, it was a little driving tour around checking out the sights, the beach at Port Browning, the chocolate shop at Hope Bay, Southridge Farms Country Store.
Then, it was time to get back to the ferry terminal for the 40-minute sailing back home. A short but sweet trip.
