  • The Coast!

    2 de octubre, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

After about a month of forests & plains, today we walked onto the wild coastline of the southern ocean. The coastal walking via dunes & heathland was a nice change but hard work, so were happy to end the day in shaded forest again. Tomorrow, we'll arrive in the trail town of Walpole, on Walpole inlet, & take a break.Leer más

  • Back to the coast

    6 de octubre, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Left the giant trees behind this morning as we headed back to the coast. Dramatic coastal cliffs, wild seas & stunning beaches, ending up in beautiful Peaceful Bay where we're camping tonight. Kangaroos in the coastal heathland & snakes in the dunes (nearly stood on one), made for an interesting afternoonLeer más

  • Change of transport

    7 de octubre, Australia ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

A diverse day of rugged coastlines, coastal heathland, white sandy beaches, grassy plains with mobs of Kangaroos & a change in transport - a canoe crossing of Irwin inlet.
Mostly in sunshine but breezy - till the last couple of hours of rain & strong windsLeer más

  • beach walking

    8 de octubre, Australia ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

Coastal cliffs, another inlet crossing (this time on foot), a 7km beach walk along Mazzoletti beach & massive granite outcrops on Tower Hill. Fine but very windy with wild seas. And we've now clocked up 850km.Leer más

  • Denmark

    9 de octubre, Australia ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Today was coastal cliffs, mature karri forest & more big rocks.
Got into Denmark early arvo - a lovely little town, embraced by forest & wrapping around Wilson inlet from Denmark River to the ocean.
Stocked up at the supermarket, did some washing, & all set for the final few days to Albany.

  • Last days

    11 de octubre, Australia ⋅ 🌬 19 °C

From Denmark, we had to take the diversion around Wilson inlet as the water crossing was too dangerous.
Aside from that, it was a couple more days of coastal heathland, dunes, granite slabs & beach walking. The sun was out today & the wind dropped, allowing swimming along the way.
Last night, a number of people we'd crossed paths with on the trail converged by chance at the same campsite, so was nice to see them one last time.
Tomorrow afternoon we should arrive in Albany having completed the Bibbulmun Track.

  • Final Day

    13 de octubre, Australia ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

Our final day was walking through dunes, rugged coastlines, coastal Heathland with loads of colourful wild flowers, & Albany wind farm. Then, around Albany harbour to Albany & the southern terminus of the Bibbulmun Track. The tradition is to sign the book & ring the bell at the i site, but got there at 2.10pm, & it closes at 2 on Sundays 🙄. Went back there today to perform that ritual.
Enjoyed the trail - so very different to NZ - & Hilary did so well on her first long distance hiking trail, carrying all her own gear (tent, cooking system, etc).
A big thank you to the Bibbulmun Foundation, Volunteers & Trail Angels - you're amazing. The track infrastructure & facilities are first class.
Catching the bus to Perth tomorrow, staying a night with Eugene & Tracey Gow-Campbell, & flying out Wed evening - back in Golden Bay Thurday. Ciao for now
