  • Leaving BA (For Now)

    4 giugno 2024, Argentina ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

This morning we were up even earlier by our standards at 7:15am! We were taking the 10:30am boat to Colonia in Uruguay. We were supposed to arrive an hour and a half before departure (we didn't) and we didn't even need to as we had checked in and passed through both immigrations in 5 minutes.Leggi altro

  • Estadio Centenario

    5 giugno 2024, Uruguay ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Our first and most important stop of the day was to Estadio Centenario. This is Uruguay's national stadium and also hosted the first ever World Cup final back in 1930, the year it's construction was completed. Uruguay won this World Cup as the home nation!

Inside the stadium is a museum with exhibits from across South American football plus other random items such as charachertures of Paul McCarntey and Rod Stewart!

  • Estadio Centenario - Pitch View

    5 giugno 2024, Uruguay ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

From the museum you could access the concourse and then the stadium itself, with the huge tower stretching overhead. Dan was delighted to find an Everton Chile sticker on the wall. Still a very impressive stadium despite being almost 100 years old, especially the pitchside moat.Leggi altro

  • Mirador Panoramico

    5 giugno 2024, Uruguay ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Our next stop was to this free 22 story lookout point over the city. We first had to go into what seemed to be some sort of council administrative centre and find the lifts going to the top.

The views were definitely panoramic although perhaps not the most spectacular skyline. It did however give us some inspiration on which direction to head for the rest of the day.Leggi altro

  • Plaza Independencia

    5 giugno 2024, Uruguay ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

We made it to the cities man square, surrounding by interesting buildings. One of which is twinned with another building in BA, and the 'gateway to the citadel' which was being held up by breezeblocks.

Apparently this is also footprint number 1,000 of our American adventure!

  • Montevideo Cathedral & Bar

    5 giugno 2024, Uruguay ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Next up we headed into the cathedral, which was absolutely spectacular! We sat here for a while and discussed our favourite church and religious memories (of which there were of course many). We then took a stroll down to the riverfront and found a very locals bar to have a few drinks.

We took the 7:30pm bus home which was a smooth 3 hour ride to end our time touristing in Uruguay!

  • Back to Buenos Aires

    6 giugno 2024, Argentina ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

This morning we took the 10:30am ferry back to BA which arrived at around lunchtime. We couldn't check into our Airbnb until 3pm so we went for some pastries, stopped for a drink (and a toastie) and then did a groceries shop to stock back up on the essentials. All of this whilst reacting to the England squad announcement and coming to terms with having to watch Lewis Dunk and Connor Callagher probably start.

Our new apartment is close to the centre of the leafy and trendy Palermo superb, a nice spot!

We then headed out to our favourite pool spot. I was nervous following the whitewash of last time out but I managed to fightback today winning 2 sets out of 3, plus winning a bonus point for winning a leg before Dan had potted a ball. This takes out aggregate score to 14-10, Dan still in the lead (for now). We also experimented with some 9 ball pool with mixed success!

We got back to our apartment in time for an episode of Clarkson's Farm as we concluded season 2!

  • Georgia Arrives!

    7 giugno 2024, Argentina ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

In the early hours of this morning our duo of two became a crowd of 3! Georgia, my friend from uni flew in from Amsterdam to join us for 3 weeks through the north of Argentina, Bolivia and Peru!

Georgia set off on her 13 hour flight on what was Thursday afternoon for us, promising to keep in touch via the onboard WiFi. However, such WiFi did not exist so Georgia set off and we never heard from her once in the air.

So, my alarm was set for 4am as flight radar was predicting a landing time for just after 5am. My alarm went off excruciatingly early and a jumped in an Uber for 35 minutes to the airport.

I waited at arrivals for a short while before Georgia came prancing through the automatic doors at 5:30am. She was delighted to see me.

We took an Uber back to our apartment, this time however it was getting towards rush hour and the Uber took around 90 minutes with the traffic! But we were able to make the most of it and have a good catch up.

  • Central BA Best Bits Tour

    7 giugno 2024, Argentina ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

For much of the day we took Georgia on a best bits tour of BA of things we'd already done and enjoyed.

We started by nipping into Palacio Barolo before heading down into the Congressional square. We stopped off for a snack of empanadas and pizzas before heading to Avenue 9 de Julio and the Obelisk. Next up was Teatro Colon, Puerto Madero (including huge ice creams) and Plaza de Mayo. We hopped on the metro back towards home but stopped off at Ecoparque where we got a proper look at the elephants and cocaine hippos this time!

Since it'd been an early start all round we had a quiet night in, and a good job as Georgia was fast asleep by 7pm.

  • Argentinian Congress Tour

    7 giugno 2024, Argentina ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

One of the new things we did today was took a tour of the Argentinian Congress. We'd saved this for Georgia's arrival as we thought she would like it and also she speaks good Spanish. When we arrived it turned out that there was an English version of the tour!

There was no pre-booking available so we turned up 15 minutes before the start and joined a tour with just two other English speakers.

We were shown around all of the main rooms including the Senate and House of Representatives. The political system seems very similar to the US and it was great to look around this spectacular building!

  • BA Best Bits Tour Pt.2

    8 giugno 2024, Argentina ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Today we recapped a few more of our highlights. First up we took the bus to the colourful La Boca where we spent a few hours. We visited Caminito, the stadium, enjoyed some churros and stocked up on some merch.

After this we headed back into the centre to the richer part of the city, home to many stunning embassies and a lovely bookshop!

  • Evening in BA

    8 giugno 2024, Argentina ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

This evening we (Georgia) had booked a highly commended local restaurant for dinner. Me and Georgia had a glass of red wine each and almost a kilo of delicious steak between us cooked medium rare. Thankfully for Dan they also had non-meat options who settled for a pumpkin pasta which was 'sound'.

We then introduced Georgia to the Alcatraz speakeasy bar (with cocktails as strong as ever) before finishing the night with a round of baby Guiness.

  • Arriving in Salta

    9 giugno 2024, Argentina ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

This morning we were up and out by 5am to catch a 6:40am domestic flight to Salta, in the north of Argentina.

All went smoothly with the flight and we headed into Salta for breakfast toasties and soft drinks. We then dropped our bags at our Airbnb before heading out to explore.

We were first greeted by the obligatory mural of Messi before many lovely churches, a square and a nice park!

We also passed some sort of parade in relation to the celebration of the province of Salta.

It also got hot today for the first time in a while, as high as 30 degrees so this was a big change to adapt back to.

  • Cerro San Bernado

    9 giugno 2024, Argentina ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

The highlight of the daytime was taking the cable car up to the top of Cerro San Bernado.

The queue was surprisingly big so after waiting our turn we boarded our gondola for the 10 minute trip to the top.

The views over the city and out to the mountains were spectacular as we pottered around taking pictures and of course stopping for a drink.

This evening we headed out for dinner at a highly commended restaurant. The place has live dancers and singers all night as we wined and dined. A sirloin steak for myself to make it back to back steak nights.

It was absolutely delicious and the entertainment was great, especially the bald singer who should be in a better place!

  • Exploring Tilcara

    10 giugno 2024, Argentina ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

After checking into our hostel we headed out to explore the small town of Tilcara. It looked like something out of the wild west with its traditional buildings and sandstone surroundings.

We had empanadas (including llama) and toasties for dinner whilst hunting around to find a tourncompany who could take us where we wanted tomorrow.Leggi altro

  • Day Tour Commences

    11 giugno 2024, Argentina ⋅ ☀️ 5 °C

This morning we were picked up by Osvaldo, our friendly local guide who would be taking the three of us on a private tour of the areas surrounding Tilcara! He only spoke Spanish but thankfully Georgia speaks good Spanish so we were able to communicate well.

First of all we headed north with a few stops at roadside viewpoints and Quebrada de las Senoritas, where we were given traditional dress and saw a chinchilla!
