    Seram

    December 18, 2022 in Indonesia ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

Seram is the big island in Maluku. Multiple people told us we had to visit this island with high mountains, preserved jungle, and incredible sea life. We got a ride all the way to Sawai in the north from our boat trip to the south. Normally this drive takes 6 hours, but thanks to a very speedy driver we arrived at Pak Ali’s place in 3 hours.

Our place was built on top of the water which made it possible to go snorkelling all the time. Some guys took us on an incredible snorkel tour around the town’s northern coast. We left on the boat with amazing snorkelling circumstances: great weather with super calm and clear water. During our lunch it started to become very windy so we had to avoid falling coconuts and we returned in some sketchy high waves.

Where the sea ends, the jungle starts. A local guide showed us the rugged, mountainous jungle of Seram. We heard the cockatoos and saw the red parrots.

Sawai is also a beautiful colourful village. You see local people bathe and wash in the river that streams through the small village.
