    A sunny, but crisp Sunday morning so hung our laundry on the porch railing before embarking on a self-guided city tour. Then maximizing our Metro tickets, we explored the suburban train lines.

    According to The Economist's Global Liveability Ranking, Vienna was named the most liveable city in the world for three consecutive years. In 2025 Vienna was placed second globally for quality of life, with Copenhagen, Denmark, securing the top spot. We can see why Vienna ranks high. A sensible city, with well-planned infrastructure and an artistic mixture of historical and modern architecture.

    Being a Catholic nation, the city is peppered with churches and cathedrals. Even better, salted with art galleries, museums and musical halls. Intriguing to spy the swimming promenades and kayaking trails on the Danube river.

    A satisfying, meandering Sunday. Time to unpeg the laundry and prepare for our overnight trip to Paris, which requires a train switch at Stuttgart's station (Germany). So, we are now 'touring' 17 countries.
