Chicago

Our first trip to the Windy City. Les mer
  • Bundled Up

    2. mai 2023, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

It’s so warm here on the plane but Kathy is still wearing her coat, and mask. I don’t know how she’s able to stand the heat! Well, she’s always saying that she’s cold so I guess she’ll leave it on for a while.Les mer

  • Wingman

    2. mai 2023, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

We’re seated in row 6, but it seems that no matter what row we sit in, we’re always right by the plane’s wings. Are the wings of a plane really so wide that they take up nearly the entire aircraft? I know the wings are long, but I didn’t think that they are so wide also.Les mer

  • On the Runway

    2. mai 2023, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 50 °F

We’re approaching the runway, on line with other planes that are waiting to take off. I never see planes landing when we’re on this line. Are landings done in another part of the airport? It would make sense but, before we boarded the plane, we saw people coming off. It had to have landed somewhere around here…Les mer

  • More Take Off

    2. mai 2023, Forente stater

I tried something new this time. I filmed the whole take off with the GoPro camera and took pictures with the phone. It was easier to do both than I had expected and it let me have both video and photos. I should try new things in photography more oftenLes mer

  • More Snacks

    2. mai 2023, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 43 °F

Kathy didn’t want her bag of Chex Mix because she thought that it was too salty for her taste. Instead, she munched on a bag of dry Cheerios cereal that she had in her purse. The Cheerios are good but also very bland. I prefer the Chex Mix.Les mer

  • Lots of Room

    2. mai 2023, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 39 °F

I’m really glad that the plane is so empty. It’s so much more comfortable flying with some extra space to stretch out and relax. We’re more used to sold out flights where space is very tight.

  • Descending

    2. mai 2023, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 50 °F

The captain has announced that we are now descending and all seatbelts must be fastened. This trip was much quicker than I had expected it to be. I never realized how close New York is to Chicago.

  • Battle of Midway Memorial

    2. mai 2023, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

If you go down the hall towards Concourse A, you will see the Battle of Midway Memorial, complete with a Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber suspended from the ceiling. Along with the aircraft there are wall panels artfully illustrating the battle’s history as well as a relatively quiet area with tables and chairs to use while awaiting one’s flight.Les mer

  • Welcome to Chicago!

    2. mai 2023, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

We’re passing by the luggage pickup area and, once again, feel so happy that this is an area that we’ll never have to spend time in. We always travel very light and just use a carry on bag. It’s so much more convenient! I like seeing signs like this in the airport though. Now I know that I’m really in Chicago!Les mer

  • Ready to Ride

    2. mai 2023, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

From the outside, these trains look very similar to what we have in New York City. The main difference is that these trains are emblazoned with the CTA logo, for Chicago Transit Authority, while ours have MTA logos, for the Metropolitan Transit Authority.Les mer

  • Final Seats?

    2. mai 2023, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

We’re not sure what direction the train will be going yet but we may have to switch seats. Kathy doesn’t like riding backwards. I remember once, in San Francisco, it almost made her sick. She ended up having to stand up and face the other way.Les mer
