  • Pancake Fish

When Kathy came out of the bakery, she not only got herself a couple of buns but she had a bag of these baby pancakes for me. I love to get this snack whenever we go to Chinatown in New York. They are, essentially, little pancakes that are very light and fluffy. I forgot what they are called in Chinese but we just call them baby pancakes. The ones in New York are just round balls. In London, they are made into little fish. I like the new look! I guess they can be made into any shape though, depending upon what mold you use to cook them in. It was so nice of Kathy to find these snacks and get them for me. What a wonderful wife she is!
The baby pancakes tasted exactly the same as what we have in New York but Kathy's buns were slightly different. She finished them, but felt that what we had back home was a lot better. I guess it all depends on what you're used to.

  • The Little Sweet Shop

So there, I am, in London, formerly Londinium, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweet shop over on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweet shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son.... That's a different story altogether.....I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.

  • How did we get here?

After some more wandering around, we found ourselves to be somewhere in the back of London's theater district. I always love exploring areas like this but I don't think that this is one of the parts of London that Kathy came here to see. We walked on through quickly, ready to see what we'll come to next. I'd like to come back to this area later. I hope that I'll be able to find this spot again!

  • Behind the Theaters

We're still here behind the theaters and this area is looking better and better. I'm really hoping that I'll be able to find this spot again later. It's going to be difficult though. I have no idea where we are and we don't even see any street signs. I've been trying to remember the way we came but it's nearly impossible. The streets here aren't laid out in a numbered grid, like New York. Almost everything here is a winding, maze like collection of narrow streets and back alleyways. I'm loving London! It's so different than back home. Staying here is really going to be an adventure!

  • The Bookseller

Unlike the big book stores like Barnes and Noble here in the United States, this seems to be what the typical book store in London looks like. I really like this sort of store. It looks so much more intimate and personal than what we have here. We passed several booksellers that all have this same sort of look so I'm not sure if this is the only kind of book store that exists in London or if these handful of shops are unique.

  • Trafalgar Square 29

I'm really taken with these red buses! I think probably because it's something so different from what we have back home. I remember feeling the same way about the streetcars in New Orleans and the cable cars in San Francisco. I always love seeing new and different sights wherever we go. I've got to ride one of these big buses at least once before we leave. It just wouldn't be a trip to London without it!

  • Garrick Theater

The theatres here in London are so beautiful! I'd really like for us to see a play while we're here. Both of us would like to see something but the question is what should we see? There are so many good choices that we can't go wrong no matter what we decide to see. Right now we're kind of leaning towards Jersey Boys. That's a show we've been wanting to see for a while now.

  • Feeling Lucky?

We were almost back to the hotel by now. I remembered this big casino right across from our hotel, on the other side of the park. This building doesn't really make think of a casino. I would have thought that this was a hotel or something like that. We passed a few casinos as we walked around tonight. I guess that the British really like to gamble. I doubt that we'll be spending any time in the casinos here in London. There's just too much else that we'd like to see and do here.

  • Back Home Again!

Before long we made it back to our hotel again. We had a great time wandering around and, surprisingly, we never got lost even though it was our first time in London. Kathy was so exhausted and just wanted to go to sleep. I was tired also but too excited to go to sleep just yet. I decided to walk Kathy up to our room, pick up the tripod, and go out again for a bit of night shooting. I could sleep when I get back to New York. Right now, I wanted to see more of London!

  • The Lineup

Tripod in hand, I went off in the London night, hoping to get some good shots of this fantastic city. I headed back to Chinatown since it was only a few blocks away and I was sort of familiar with the area. At this hour, it was to late to start exploring somewhere new and I was very tired on top of that.
While going past the M&M's store, I spotted this line of taxis waiting for fares. I love the classic look of these British cabs. I really hope that we get a chance to ride in one of these iconic cars.

  • More Gates

While we don't have any gates in New York, London has several. I don't know why New York hasn't looked into putting at least one these monuments up. They are real eye-catching and will attract both tourists and locals alike. It just seems strange to me that every Chinatown, except New York, has at least one of these gates. I want us to have one!

  • The Lion Dancer

If I hadn't been looking up I would have completely miss this detail of Chinatown. This was mounted on the side of a building up near the roof. It looks as if one of the Chinese New Year Lion Dancers had come to life and was creeping down the wall. This looks so colorful and vibrant, even at night. I can only imagine how bright these colors look in the daytime. If you're ever out taking pictures, this Lion Dancer imparts a valuable lesson. Always look up!

  • Les Miserables

Les Miserables is my favorite musical of all time. Miss Saigon is a very close second. I always enjoy musicals though. I can't think of a single one that I didn't like. When we see a show here, I wouldn't mind seeing Les Miserables again. I have several versions of the Les Miserables soundtrack and the London version is my favorite. It would be amazing to see it here on the stage! Maybe seeing something new would be better though. Let's see what's available at the TKTS windows before we decide.

  • Theatreland

West End theater is a common term for mainstream professional theater staged in the large theaters of "Theatreland" in and near the West End of London.
Along with New York City's Broadway theaters, West End theater is usually considered to represent the highest level of commercial theater in the English-speaking world. Seeing a West End show is a common tourist activity in London.

  • Jen Cafe

With it's vivid jade green hue, Jen Cafe is very easy to find. Their specialty is tea – and lots of it. From the floral sweet Chrysanthemum Honey to fruity Lemon Kumquat, most of their Asian teas can be served hot or cold to suit your mood – or temperature. Bubble teas of all colors, flavors and sweetness can also be enjoyed at Jen Café.
Outside of this, there’s enough variety on their menu to give many of Chinatown’s restaurants a run for their money. Their barbecue options are especially plentiful.

  • Ghosts in the Alley

This is one of the back alleys of Chinatown. The original picture was so dark you could hardly see anything, even though a tripod was used. After the processing was finished, it looks like a scene from a haunted house. What really puts this photo over the top is the long exposure of people walking in the center of the alley. They look like ghosts now. It just adds to that haunted house feeling.
