  • Getting Close

    May 3, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

This bridge looks to be designed more for trains than cars. The whole time we’ve been out here, though, I haven’t heard a single train going by. I’m wondering if this bridge is part of an old train route that’s been abandoned.Read more

  • Passing Under

May 3, 2022 in the United States

It’s all water under the bridge, as the saying goes. I’m surprised to see that a lot of this bridge seems to be made of wood. I would think that all the moisture in the swamps would make that impractical because the wood would rot very quickly.Read more

  • Land Ho!

May 3, 2022 in the United States

Our swamp experience is over and we’re back on dry land. I’d say that this was the best thing we’ve done in New Orleans, so far, and I’d definitely like to try it again sometime.

  • Back to Nawlins

May 3, 2022 in the United States

The ride back to New Orleans seemed to go a lot faster than I expected. Kathy napped for a bit so I just munched on some alligator jerky and watched the scenery pass on by.

  • Hitching Posts

May 3, 2022 in the United States

These horse hitching posts are all over the French Quarter. They were originally used to "hitch" or tie a person's horse so that they could galavant around town running errands or grabbing cocktails. However, these days, they have a dual purpose of adding old-world charm and keeping cars from parking on the sidewalk!Read more

  • Balconies

    May 3, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

These iconic balconies in the French Quarter are so beautiful and really sets the mood for the slower and more laid back feel of New Orleans. They are so photogenic!

  • Gumbo Shop

    May 3, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

We’ve been reading so many good reviews about this place that it made us very eager to try it. Kathy is wanting to try all the different types of Cajun and creole food so this place should be perfect for her.Read more

  • Gumbo

    May 3, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 81 °F

Ordering gumbo from the Gumbo Shop is a no-brainer. Kathy ordered a bowl of this rice dish as an accompaniment to her dinner. It looks to be a bit too spicy for me. I didn’t even taste it!

  • Catfish Po’boy

    May 3, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 81 °F

I ordered something a lot less spicy, the catfish po’boy sandwich. It may not look as flashy or as photogenic as the gumbo but at least I know that it’s something that I could enjoy eating.

  • Spicy!

    May 3, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 81 °F

The gumbo was a bit spicier than Kathy had expected but she finished all of it, which surprised me. She’s really determined to eat her way through the whole menu of Cajun and Creole cuisine!

  • Size Matters

    May 3, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 79 °F

While walking back to the hotel, we past several places that looked kind of interesting and we were thinking about possibly visiting them before we left. I loved the name of this pizza place in the French Quarter. I wonder what New Orleans style pizza would taste like..Read more

  • The Queue

    May 3, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 79 °F

I guess that I spoke too quickly because I’m suddenly seeing this crowd of people queuing up for something. I’m not sure what this line is for but I’m guessing it’s to get into some bar or club. I’m so glad that Kathy and I were never into going to those sort of places. Not that there’s anything wrong with those places but it’s just not for us.Read more

  • Bourbon Street

    May 3, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 79 °F

I usually prefer traveling when things aren’t very crowded but this just feels strange. Bourbon Street is supposed to be a very lively and happening place, not like this.

  • Come In… If You Dare!

    May 3, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 79 °F

This is one of the most unique, and creepy, stores I have ever been to. The people working here were very nice and friendly though, driving home the lesson of not judging books by covers. I have read a lot of reviews that depict the staff as being somewhere between indifferent to outright nasty. I'm guessing that perhaps we caught them on a good day?
This was a very interesting place to visit. Be a good tourist though and explore with care, kindness and respect. Even if you don't agree with it, this is a very serious religion to some people.
