  • Long Lines

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

A look back at the Coliseum shows me that the lines keep on growing. If we just got here now, I wonder how long we’d be standing outside, waiting to get into the Coliseum. There’s not even any shade for people to stand under. These lines must be brutal during the summer months!Read more

  • Still Waiting

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

The line is moving but not as fast as I would like. I don’t know what the hold up is but I’m hoping that we get to go in soon. Waiting on line is never fun!

  • We Made it!

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

We finally made it through the line! Apparently there was only one person working there who was doing a very thorough job of checking everyone’s bags and putting people through metal detectors. We didn’t have to go through that to visit the Coliseum, so why do it here? I would think that this place needs the security much less than the Coliseum because Palatine Hill is, essentially, an open park.Read more

  • Walking into History

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

Palatine Hill seems very interesting so far but, unfortunately, there’s hardly any signs telling us what we’re seeing or explaining about it. I guess that the locals are very familiar with their history and don’t need it but a guidebook or signs would help us a lot.Read more

  • Ready to Explore

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

So far, everything that we’ve seen here has been beautiful! The Romans must have been a very advanced civilization to have created such wonderful things so very long ago.

  • A Look Back

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

This isn’t really what I had imagined the ruins to look like. I was expecting it to be more like walking around in an archeological dig. I’m not sure if I’m disappointed or not yet. I’d like to see more of this place.Read more

  • The Corridor

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

This is what we found at the top of the steps. This corridor looks like it would be a great place for some portraits. Hopefully Kathy is in the mood to do a bit of modeling.

  • Kathy

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

I was right! This is a great location for shooting portraits. I think Kathy always photographs so well. I love taking pictures of her!

  • A Bit Closer

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

Here’s another, closer, shot of Kathy. I took so many pictures of her here but I’m only going to post these two since they all the photos look very similar. I just never get tired of photographing my lovely wife!Read more

  • Us

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

Here’s another shot of Kathy and I. I really love photos of us together. We always look so natural and happy with each other.

  • Hanging Gardens

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 59 °F

This was what we saw at the end of the corridors. I’m so impressed that the Romans were able to build such beautiful things like this with no modern tools or machinery.

  • Looking Down

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 59 °F

Kathy ran up to the top of the hanging garden to see the view and started calling me to come up. It must look fantastic from up there. I’m on my way!

  • A Great View

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 59 °F

Kathy was right! The view from up here is amazing! I can only imagine what this view looked like in the heyday of the Roman Empire. It must have been magnificent!

  • Seeing It All

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 59 °F

Here’s a panoramic view from the top of the balcony. It looks great! There’s so much to see here at the ruins next to the coliseum. I want to experience all of it!

  • Hanging Gardens

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 59 °F

The hanging gardens by the fountain didn’t seem to be completely plants but more made of moss and lichens. It looked nice but I think that hanging plants or climbing ivy might have looked better.

  • Why Not Have a Tour?

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 59 °F

I wish that we really knew what we were looking at. Rather than letting everyone wander around, they should be conducting tours of this park. I think that it would make things a lot more interesting and give people a lot more information.Read more

  • Long Lines

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 59 °F

From here, we can still see the Coliseum. That line is so long now! I’m thinking, at this point, a visit to the Coliseum would be an all day project. I’m so happy we thought ahead and got our tickets early!Read more

  • Back to the Beginning

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 48 °F

I’m guessing that we’ve seen everything here because the path has led us back to the big arch at the main entrance. Palatine Hill has been a very interesting place to visit but, somehow, I was expecting a bit more out of it.Read more

  • The Coliseum

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 61 °F

I think that I would have been more impressed with Palatine Hill if we hadn’t seen the Coliseum first. After being inside the Coliseum, how can any other historical Roman site even come close to how breathtaking the Coliseum actually is?Read more
