  • Il Colosseo

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 61 °F

I’m so happy that we were able to visit the Coliseum. This is a place that I’ll never forget seeing. So far, I’m thinking that this is my favorite part of our trip to Rome. Can anything else in Rome top the magnificence of the Coliseum. I’m sorry to leave but everyone is getting hungry. Let’s go have lunch!Read more

  • A Hungry Crowd

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 61 °F

I guess that everyone had the same idea that we did because when we got out of the train at Stazione Termini Roma the food court was so crowded. I guess that everyone in Rome eats lunch around the same time.Read more

  • Hungry

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 61 °F

This was the most appetizing food that we saw and it tasted absolutely fantastic! This is a dish of meatballs wrapped up in what looks like a pizza crust with tomato sauce poured over it. Yum! I’d definitely like more of this before we leave Rome!Read more

  • So Tasty!

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 61 °F

Touring around Rome is making Groot so hungry. He’s loving the local pasta dishes and always eats much more than his share. So far, all of the food here has been great!

  • Hungry Boy

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 61 °F

Bryan must be starving because he’s eating nearly twice the amount that Kathy and I ordered. He’s usually the first one finished eating too. I don’t know where he puts it all, or how!

  • Hard Rock Cafe

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

We decided to go to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner tonight. The food in Italy has been great but Kathy and I were craving a taste of American style food. We usually eat at a Hard Rock Cafe at least once every time we travel.Read more

  • Waiting

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 55 °F

Groot was left in charge of the notification device that will let us know when a table is ready. Bryan didn’t want to come to the Hard Rock Cafe at all and thought that we should eat at more Italian restaurants. Hopefully, once we’re inside, and eating, he’ll see that this is a good restaurant.Read more

  • We're In!

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

It was a bit of a wait before we were seated but we’re finally inside! The wait would have been a lot easier if Bryan wasn’t complaining so much about having to eat here instead of another Italian place. It was making things tense and unpleasant. Now that we’re inside, hopefully he’ll calm down.Read more

  • Mmmmmm.. Ribs!

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 54 °F

I chose ribs for dinner tonight and they were delicious! They were perfectly prepared and made for a nice change from the constant Italian food that we’ve been having. Don’t get me wrong, I love Italian food just not every meal every day.Read more

  • Happy Times

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 55 °F

Dinner was wonderful and everyone was happy. I understand that Bryan wanted to eat more of the local foods but, sometimes, he needs to consider other peoples options and feelings. I’m just glad that we all had a good time together.Read more

  • The Long Walk Home

    November 10, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 55 °F

After a great dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe, we left the restaurant and walked out into the rain. Nobody had brought an umbrella, since rain wasn't forecast for tonight, so we just had to deal with it. At least Kathy stayed dry because she was wearing her raincoat. By the time we got back to the hotel I was drenched!Read more

  • Starting the Day

    November 11, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 55 °F

We’re getting a bit low on cash so we started off the day by stopping off at the bank and getting some money. We’re using out charge cards for most of our expenses but it’s always good to have some cash, just in case.Read more

  • Spanish Steps

    November 11, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 55 °F

The bank was right by the Spanish Steps. We seem to begin each day from this starting point. I’m glad that our hotel is so close to this iconic Roman landmark.

  • Where Are We Going?

    November 11, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 55 °F

Since we picked the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner last night, we decided to let Bryan pick where we go for breakfast. He has so many ideas stored on his phone. I hope that he picks someplace good!

  • Getting Crowded

    November 11, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 55 °F

Even though it’s somewhat early, this area is already becoming a bit crowded. I guess that, since this is a big tourist attraction, that’s to be expected. I wonder how many of the people here are locals as opposed to tourists. Do the locals even bother coming to places like this?Read more

  • The Boat Fountain

    November 11, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 55 °F

This festive little fountain at the bottom of the Spanish Steps is both beautiful and strange at the same time. It is a baroque fountain of a boat built directly at the foot of the steps that add greatly the “magic” of the area. The fountain was designed and constructed by Pietro Bernini with the help of his son Gian Lorenzo Bernini and has an interesting story.
Even today, there are many floods in Rome but back in the 16th century, it was even worse. In 1598 a massive flood caused the Tiber to overflow which caused a boat from the river to be carried into Piazza di Spagna. When the waters retreated, the boat remained there in the square. When Pietro Bernini received the commission Pope Urban VIII he used the boat as inspiration.

  • Fountain Details

    November 11, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 55 °F

This fountain is unique in that Bernini built it to resemble a boat steadily filled by water pouring out of 2 suns and pouring out into a surrounding basin, giving the impression of a sinking ship.

  • Thirsty?

    November 11, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 55 °F

Like the other fountains in Rome, this water is completely potable, and to be honest, will save you a lot of money on your walking treks around the city. Say no to the street sellers peddling expensive water bottles near the sights, and fill up your own!Read more

  • Let’s Walk!

    November 11, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 55 °F

Bryan picked an open air food market as our destination for breakfast. It looked as if it’s going to be quite a walk to get there but, for whatever reason, he refuses to use the public transportation and Kathy just goes along with him, saying that the walk would be good for us. My feet are already aching…Read more

  • Shopping

    November 11, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 55 °F

Campo de' Fiori has never been architecturally formalized. The square has always remained a focus for commercial and street culture: the surrounding streets are even named for trades—Via dei Balestrari (crossbow-makers), Via dei Baullari (coffer-makers), Via dei Cappellari (hat-makers), Via dei Chiavari (key-makers) and Via dei Giubbonari (tailors).Read more
