  • Fontana dei Quattro

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

Here's a bit of trivia for movie buffs. The Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi was used in the 1990 film Coins in the Fountain. The characters threw coins into the fountain as they made wishes. The Trevi Fountain was used in the 1954 version of the film.Read more

  • Reflections

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

Here's my obligatory artsy shot of the obelisk at the center of the fountain. I saw it's reflection on one of the many puddles of rain water surrounding the fountain and just couldn't resist.

  • Fontana del Nettuno

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

Fontana del Nettuno, translated as the Fountain of Neptune, is the last of the three fountains in Piazza Navona. Neptune is seen here, in the center of the fountain, fighting an octopus. I'm guessing that most people enter the Piazza from the other end because this was the quietest part of Piazza Navona that we've seen yet.Read more

  • Ciao, Italia!

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

Since this area was very empty, I decided to bring out Groot and do some toy photography. Groot is fun and easy to work with. He seems to fit in so naturally wherever he is.

  • Groot on Vacation

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

Groot was only out for a few minutes, posing by the fountain, when a little boy wandered up and tried to grab him! I was very surprised but moved quickly to grab Groot and hold him away from the child. He was very small, maybe around two or three years old, so I'm thinking that he didn't realize what he was doing. His father quickly got him and was telling him no, no, no. I guess that Groot appeals to everyone!Read more

  • Making Plans

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

While I was taking pictures, Kathy and Bryan were comparing things on their phones. I'm not sure if they were looking for a place to have lunch or trying to decide what we should see next. I'm fine with either plan. I'm happy doing anything!Read more

  • Danbo

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

Since Kathy and Bryan were busy with their phones, I decided to get a few shots of Danbo. He's such a simple and plain looking character but, yet, he somehow manages to look so expressive. I like shooting with him.Read more

  • Kathy

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

I never get tired of taking pictures of Kathy. She's my muse, my inspiration and the love of my life. She's everything to me and always will be.

  • Details

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

The fountains here in Piazza Navona really are beautiful. The details of the sculptures are incredible. It's amazing to think that all of this was done hundreds of years ago by hand.

  • Spitting Birds

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

The fountains here are so beautiful but I'm wondering how they were able to create flowing water, like seen on this eagle, when there was no motors to control water pressure or the flow of the water. I'll have to do some research into this.Read more

  • Double Flow

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

Here's another side of the fountain, with a double sided water flow. I'm not an engineer but I would think that this would be difficult to construct without some sort of motor pulling the water up and pushing it out. I wonder how they managed it?Read more

  • Moving On

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

We've seen, and admired, all three of the fountains of Piazza Navona, as well as it's cathedral, so it's time for us to move on and see more of Rome. I'm going to try for a few more shots of the other two fountains as we pass by.Read more

  • King of the Beasts

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

Seen in Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, or the Fountain of Four Rivers, this lion is representative of Africa and the Nile river. The more that I look at this fountain, the more details I keep finding.

  • Ganges

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

The Fountain of the Four Rivers depicts Gods of the four great rivers in the four continents as then recognized by the Renaissance geographers: the Nile in Africa, the Ganges in Asia, the Danube in Europe and the Río de la Plata in America. This figure is Ganges.Read more

  • More Faces

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

I'm starting to understand why Kathy and Bryan were finished with the fountains much faster than I was. After a while, all of these faces start looking sort of the same. I wonder if my interest would be held as long if I wasn't taking pictures?Read more

  • Blowing Water

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

I've been doing photography for so long that I couldn't imagine traveling without a camera. I think it makes me see things differently, as well as see more, than most other people. I'll examine things from every angle and imagine my shots in all different ways, like the lighting in this photo.Read more

  • More Details

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

With getting this shot, I think that I've got the fountains of Piazza Navona pretty well covered. I'm think that I'm ready to move on and see more of Rome. I'm so impressed with this city so far!

  • I Don't See Them

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

I'm looking all around, like this statue in the fountain, but I don't see them anywhere. I'm getting very worried now. Getting separated in the mall or a supermarket isn't a big deal but getting lost in a foreign country is a lot more scary!Read more

  • Calming Down

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

After an initial moment of panic, common sense kicked in as I realized that, if I didn't find them soon, I know where the hotel is and I have my key. I could also call them, or send a message. I did that and, a few minutes later, we were together again. It's amazing how quickly fear blocks the ability to think and reason.Read more

  • Chestnuts

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 55 °F

We decided to go back to the hotel for a short rest before having something for lunch. On the walk back, Kathy noticed, and became fascinated, by the many people we saw selling chestnuts from stalls on the street. She was very curious to try the chestnuts but not at the moment. She wants to save her appetite for lunch.Read more

  • We're Back!

    November 9, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 55 °F

By the time we got back to the hotel I wasn't feeling very good. I think that the breakfast that I had this morning wasn't agreeing with me. I remember the eggs being quite greasy but I didn't think that it would be a problem. Unfortunately, I was mistaken.Read more
