  • Almost There

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

Looking out the window, I can see that the sun is just starting to come up. We're supposed to be landing around 6:30 in the morning, local time, so I'm guessing that we're nearly there. I can't wait! It's going to feel so good to get out of this plane!Leia mais

  • Rough Ride

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

Our plane is experiencing a lot of turbulence right now and, looking out the window, it's easy to see why. It looks like it's raining out but I can't really tell for sure. I'm thinking that it is, based on the weather reports we read and the bumpy ride that we're feeling. I hope that we land soon. Kathy feels like she's going to be sick! I've got a bag ready for her, just in case.Leia mais

  • Welcome to Italy

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

The plane has just landed at Fiumicino Airport and this is my first view of Italy. The main thing that I'm seeing so far is lots of very dark and threatening rain clouds. I'm hoping that it won't be like this for our entire stay in Rome. Right now, I'm expecting that this is going to be a very wet vacation.Leia mais

  • We're Here!

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

We're still taxiing to the gate but it's looking bad outside. Kathy didn't get sick on the plane, despite all that turbulence, but I had a bag ready for her, just in case. Neither of us have ever gotten sick on an airplane before. I'm glad that it didn't happen now. That would be a terrible way to start off our vacation!Leia mais

  • Headed to the City

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

Fortunately, Kathy didn't get sick on the plane. We passed through Rome's immigration area very quickly and had no problems picking up my bag. Kathy must be very eager to get to Rome because I almost had to run to keep up with her. I don't know what the big rush is. If it was up to me, we would have gone a lot slower and appreciate some of the sites in the new airport. Anyway, were on the Leonardo Express train riding into the city of Rome. It's raining hard right now. I'm hoping that it stops soon.Leia mais

  • Going Up?

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 55 °F

After switching from the Leonardo Express to a subway train, we've arrived at our stop, Spagna. I'm glad that the trains here have escalators. If this was stairs, they would be so steep! This view reminds me of the subways in London. Their trains are very deep underground too.Leia mais

  • Waiting for Our Room

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

After leaving the subway, it took us a while to find where our hotel was. It was actually very easy to get there but, it being our first time here, we didn't know where to go. Like much of Europe, the streets don't seem to have many signs indicating their name. We also tried asking directions from some local police officers but none of them spoke English.
We finally found the hotel but were told that our room wasn't ready for us to check in yet. We had expected that because it was still so early in the morning. We left our bags in the lobby but didn't want to go back out because of the rainy weather. The hotel staff was very accommodating and invited us to wait in their parlor. We decided to just stay here for a while and dry off. Right now, we're waiting for our room to be ready and also for Bryan to arrive. I wonder which one will be first.

  • Breakfast

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

After Bryan arrived, we decided to go out and have breakfast since all of us were starving from not eating on the plane. Bryan picked this place, Caffè Greco. We had never heard of it before but it's actually the oldest, and most famous, coffee house in Rome.Leia mais

  • Caffè Greco

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

Such excellent service! The waiters are obviously there to make us happy and it shows. This place is like stepping back in history to the 1700 and 1800's! Excellent hot chocolate and cookies. The crossiants not so much. This seems like the place to be when in Rome but quality always has it's price. I would definitely like to come back here before we leave!Leia mais

  • Leaving

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

Since our breakfast was only a drink and some pastry, we were ready to go soon after eating. Caffè Greco is such a beautiful place! It reminds me of when we went to Angelina's in Paris. It's a toss up on which place has the better hot chocolate. I wish that I could get a hot chocolate like what's served here back in America!Leia mais

  • Tasty!

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

Here's a look into the pastry display as we were leaving Caffè Greco. We weren't exactly thrilled with their crossiants but everything else looks delicious! Maybe our judgement of the crossiants was a bit unfair since we were comparing them to the ones that we had in Paris. Those were so amazing that I don't think that anywhere else could possibly measure up.

  • Strike a Pose!

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

Being that we still had some time until our room was ready, and we were feeling better after eating, we stopped to see the famous Spanish Steps. We didn't have the energy to climb them today but at least we were able to see them.Leia mais

  • Mother and Son

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

Here's Kathy and Bryan posing at the Spanish Steps. I'm shocked by how tall he's become! It's really noticable to me when he's standing next to us for pictures. It's still raining but Kathy lowered the umbrella for the pictures. When the umbrella was up, you can't even tell where we are. I really hope that it doesn't rain like this for our whole visit!Leia mais

  • Where's the Lego Store?

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

We saw signs like this all over Rome, advertising several places where we wanted to shop, but after following the directions on several of the signs we saw posted, we were never found any of the places these signs were directing us too. Why are they putting up signs directing us to places that don't seem to exist? It's very frustrating!Leia mais

  • Still Waiting

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

When we got back to Hotel Mozart a room still wasn't ready for us but we were assured that one will be ready momentarily. We decided that, rather than going out again, we would just wait in the lobby. At this point, Kathy and I really needed to sleep for a bit. Not a long sleep, since we wanted to adjust to the local time, but just napping for a few hours should make us feel so much better.
We only had to wait for few minutes before we were taken up to room 108, on the first floor. It was small but most European hotel rooms are. As soon as we put down our bags, Kathy and I slept. All of our tiredness finally caught up with us.

  • So Thirsty!

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

When we woke up from our nap, we felt very refreshed but also quite hungry. While we were asleep, Bryan was exploring the neighborhood and looking into good places to eat. This place, PizzaRé, was one of the places that he discovered. The menu looked very good but, even before the food came I found myself drinking so much water. I just couldn't get enough to drink!Leia mais

  • Pizza!

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

This is our first time eating pizza in Italy and, I must say, it was fantastic! Rather than getting a slice, or two, like we do back in the States, in Italy each person gets their own small pie. Each pie is equal to maybe 4 to 6 regular slices of pizza. This was my pie, I picked the four cheese white pizza with no sauce. It was delicious!Leia mais

  • Kathy's Pie

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

Kathy's pie had mushrooms, vegetables and some Italian meats on it. She enjoyed it very much and found it to be better than the pizza that we have on America. One of the things that made her like it so much was how fresh all of the ingredients were. I had to agree with her. Italian pizza is awesome!Leia mais

  • Pizza From Above

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

Here's an overhead look at my pizza. I'm starting to get into food photography. I never realized that that subject has it's own subgenre until I began seeing it on Instagram. It's more tricky than I expected but it's a great way to remember those special meals you've had, especially while on vacation!Leia mais

  • Bryan's Pizza

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

Bryan's pizza was sort of like a kitchen sink type because it seemed to have everything on it. His pie had so many toppings that it was split up into quarters and several different toppings were in each section. He must have been very hungry because he was the only one of us who was able to finish their entire pie.Leia mais

  • He's Hungry!

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

While we were eating dinner, I decided to get Groot into a shot with the pizza. As I said, I'm trying to do more toy photography on this trip and I'm going to practice by trying to use them in as many shots as I can. I'm very happy with the way this shot came out.Leia mais

  • Trevi Fountain

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

After dinner, everyone felt so full that we decided to walk around to work off all that food. We ended up at Trevi Fountain and were struck speechless not only by how beautiful it was but also by how crowded it was. I'm so glad that we got to see this famous site.Leia mais

  • Kathy

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

We were all amazed by how beautiful, and big, Trevi Fountain is. We've seen so many pictures of Trevi Fountain on different travel websites but it's so much more impressive in person. I really want to come back sometime during the day so I can see Trevi Fountain in different lighting conditions.Leia mais

  • Coins in a Fountain

    8 de novembro de 2019, Itália ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

There is a popular belief about throwing a few coins into Trevi Fountain. The myth, originating in 1954 with the movie "Three Coins in the Fountain," goes like this: If you throw one coin: you will return to Rome. If you throw two coins: you will fall in love with an attractive Italian. If you throw three coins: you will marry the person that you met.Leia mais
