    Puno and the floating islands

    May 27, 2024 in Peru ⋅ ☀️ 5 °C

My first stop in Peru - lake titikaka, the uros people and the island of taquile.

The uro has lived for the last 700 years on man-made islands made of reeds, they take around two years to build, and have to be changed every twenty. Nowadays it is extremely touristy but still fascinating.

As for the people of Taquile, they also have unique traditions which mainly involve using different articles of clothing to represent statues. Such as different beanies for being single or married, or only three pompons on your shawl if you are in a relationship but not married. Interesting people.

Puno itself is quite the bore.
