  • Antibes Friday 20 Sep

    September 20, 2024 in France ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

First full day in Antibes (this time!). Walked almost 15,000 steps. I got baguette and croissants first thing (after a lie-in till 8.30!!). Then went out a bit later to the market and bought some lovely fresh produce. In the afternoon, we walked up to and around (but not inside, as it cost money plus was closing early) the fort. Came back down and had a beer. Then Chris went for a swim in the sea while I ate ice cream and read my book. Back home for Chris to change then out to the supermarket for essentials like linguine, olive oil and wine. Then Chris got a banh-mi and ate it on the terrace, where I am having crisps amd Prosecco before cooking a simple pasta with some of the veg I picked up this morning.

Am completely exhausted. In a very good way.

  • 21 September Antibes

    September 21, 2024 in France ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Fairly laid back day with siesta and lots of lounging, and being obsessed with the terrace-visiting pigeons. Still managed over 10000 steps walking out to, just about Cap d'Antibes, and got fruit from the market this morning as we still have plenty of vegetables.Read more

    September 22, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Walked over to Juan-les-Pins and didn't like it so much. It was more resorty and built up. We had a nice coffee there, though, and the all was good and saw some interesting houses and trees.

I would like it a lot more if I was visiting during the big jazz festival they hold in July!

We went out for pizza in the evening, which was very nice, but I ate just that bit too much, so felt uncomfortable for a while.

And then we swapped roles and Chris got an early night while I stayed up past midnight finishing my book (The Fraud by Zadie Smith) and also finishing the Prosecco and my share of the mini cakes I bought (no photos, sorry).

    September 23, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

Monday started with lightening, thunder and a power cut. So we didn't get out a huge amount and not till the afternoon. Though I did still get almost 10,000 steps! Wandered a bit in the afternoon, and picked up some bits and bobs at the supermarket. Went out again later for ice cream and then I made a nice meal of pasta with courgettes, some green leaves of some kind and goats cheese, with a big salad.Read more

  • 24 September Part 1

    September 24, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Almost 20,000 steps today! We hopped across the border to Italy on the train and wandered around a v
VERY windy Bordighera. Had a panini and beer for lunch. Oh and a capucinp and espresso. I got to practise my Italian for a change, and people understood me, which is always a bonus.Read more

  • 24 September Part 2

    September 24, 2024 in Italy ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

Last time I visited Bordighera (in November last year) it was a bit of a flying visit and I did not find the old town (which is a bit of a trek from the station). Very grateful to have a better map reader with me this time, who found the way to the old town. Sooooooooooo very much kind of place with narrow streets and pretty buildings.Read more

    September 25, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

These amazing statues are on the sea wall in Antibes until 7 October. We enjoyed looking at them the whole time we were there (including one we could see from the window and terrace), and I finally went and took photos of them on our last full day.Read more

  • Last night and morning

    September 25, 2024 in France ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Walking along the sea wall at night is wonderful. The lights of the houses and boats in the distance are just beautiful.

We had a lovely time in Antibes and so grateful to be able to spend this week together enjoying the beautiful scenery and some lovely food. And full rest from work!

A perfect way to celebrate 20 years of marriage.
