Wheew! We contuined on from Malibu to Santa Barbara. Since we stuffed our faces with D'Amores Pizza in Malibu, we were too full to stop for Tacos🥹 But after driving through cute Santa B, we drove to the coast where the weather was just way too cold and headed up to Cambria.
Ha. Haaaha. Here the story of the decade begins...
Motels are all over the place in the US, and on roadtrips people in every single movie I've ever watched, stop whenever they see one and stay for a night.
That was my plan for last night.
Well... I didn't think CAMBRIA was going to be booked out completely. And everything in a thirdy minute radius too, nonetheless!
So cruising around the little towns next to Cambria like some creepsters, we searched and searched. We headed out to one hotel Booking.com showed us was vacant, didn't book however to save money to book on site... and the damn hotel was under construction. No reception! I mean thank god we didn't book a room 'cause we would've had to sleep in a construction site! Then we went to the Carlton hotel and the lady at the reception called around 3 hotels in the vicinity for us. Surprise: all booked out. And I thought we were in the middle of freakin' nowhere but apparently not.
To our surprise, before Stevie could start rambling on about sleeping in the car, she offered for us to stay in her home. She explained that she had 3 or 4 kids and that she and her husband have some extra rooms. After telling her that she really didn't need to do that and we certainly didn't wanna impose, we agreed because well... I didn't fancy sleeping in a car with two boys. Stevie and Luke would've snored up a storm sitting in the front seats.
We followed her in our cars to a nice looking neighborhood, met her husband and were offered some water and beer. Even a shot of pricey Tequila not to be "bottom-ed up" but "slurpily enjoyed". (Yes, more if Nat-Words and no grammar rules.)
We talked about where we were from, what we did professionally and got to know each other. They were inspiringly kind, welcoming and warm hearted. In the morning the lady went back to work and the husband made some extra coffee for us. They told us a touching story about the son they lost and I left a thank you note. Then we went to a florist, bought flowers, to an ATM and went by the hotel to thank her.
And our roadtrip continues with my heart completely moved and inspired.💎❤️Read more
