Carmel by the sea & Big Sur, California

I mean who the hell thought July 2024 was a good time to keep a huge part of route 1 closed? Greatest thing about this: THE MIDDLE of the road was closed so either drive up as far as possible and everything back down, or the same deal just from the other side. Stupid is as stupid does! Apparently it takes 2 years to clean up landslides. I'm not saying I have the first clue about how to deal with that kind of a mess, but come on, couldn't it have happened ANYWHERE else???
So we asked around and decided that it was more scenic driving down from Carmel to Big Sur and back rather than from San Simeon to Rugged Point (and back, mind you.) Time was of the essence which is why we didn't do both.🥲
After spending the entire day driving, we arrived in San Francisco and I already like the little of what I've seen so far.
