• Cider

One of the attractions of this part of Spain is the cider......it is not drunk the way one would expect from vast flagons of falling over water...... instead the brew itself is unfiltered and full of yeast..and alive! The locals have worked out that the way to enjoy this is to drastically aerate it on a ritual called 'el escanciado' where the bottle is held above the head and a thin stream of cider is poured hitting not the base of the glass but the rim....the cider shot or 'Culín' I then passed to the drinker who drinks the fizzy shot immediately. Normally the glass is shared with the dregs thrown on the ground to cleanse the glass for the next drinker.....this sticky fun tradition has been recognized by Unesco as an 'Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity' .....well scrumpy doesn't quite stack up now.Okumaya devam et
