Its a humungous factory with steam absolutely everywhere.
We saw the sugar canes come in on the cane trains and get cleaned up. We saw sugar cane getting mixed, crushed, heated and then cleaned. We saw the refined sugar getting taken away in some big trucks. There was a wonderful smell of molasses.
We had to wear a helmet, a safety vest, some safety glasses and ear plugs because of the noise.
It's really amazing to see all the machinery at work and how cane is turned into sugar.Read more

Dunk Island, Mission Beach

We hired a boat, Dad drove us out to Dunk Island it was very bummmpy.
We had lunch at Purtaboi Island, it was covered in lots of dead coral that looks like bones.
We went fishing between both islands and I caught my first fish in the first 5 minutes. After that fish we had lots of bites but no more fish.Read more

Billabong Sanctuary, Townsville

This sanctuary is so far the best sanctuary yet.
It has lots of different shows: The bird show where we heard a talk on lots of different birds whilst lots of different birds fly around our heads, I even got to hold a rainbow lorikeet.

There is a koala and wombat experience. A wildlife attendant does a talk on each animal and then you can pay extra money for a souvenir photo with the animal, we didn't get a souvenir photo.
The last one is the kangaroo feeding we didn't do it because you can just hand feed the kangaroos bird seed around the park.Read more

Magnetic Island

First we took a ferry over to the island which took about half an hour. When we arrived we walked down to a car hire place. Dad signed a few things and paid for a 4 wheel drive hire for the day.
With the car we drove up to the forts and saw the old workshop and we saw the big forts and the amazing views. We saw a few koalas on the way and on the way back we saw a cute little echidna, it got scared and dug a little hole to hide in.
Then we went snorkelling we saw coral and lots of small fish but sadly the coral wasn't very colourful.
The next spot we went had rock wallabies. I put out some bird seed and went snorkelling out to an old ship wreck with lots of fish. When I got back there were wallabies everywhere. I picked up some seeds and they all jumped over and started gobbling away on the seeds.Read more

Junabel Farm Stay

This overnight farmstay has lots of miniature goats, miniature horses and chickens.
The two baby goats, (kids), "Bonnie and Clyde" hung around the caravans and so did the chickens.
At 4:30pm it's feeding time and you get to feed the goats, chickens and miniature horses their dinner.
At 8am in the morning it's breakfast time for the animals, you get to brush the horses, feed the chickens and all the animals all over again.
Along with the farm animals there were also 3 cats and 2 dogs.
We loved this farmstay, especially as it was Fathers' Day and we made dad a special yummy breakfast.Read more

Rockhampton Zoo

Free Zoo in the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens.
There is a huge bird enclosure with lots of different birds from around Australia.
There were monkeys, dingos, birds, and lots more.
Great for taking pictures of birds and its all Free!Read more

Lady Elliot Island

We arrived at the Bunderberg airport at 8:00am and took a plane to the island. We did a few loops of the island, (the coral was absolutely amazing). When we landed a Manager took us on a tour around the island. The only thing on the island was the resort and you could walk around the outside of the island in about 40mins.
We got to our cabin and walked down to the equipment hire and hired some snorkels and some flippers for free. If you wanted to hire a wetsuit it was about $13 and all the equipment we could keep for our whole stay.
Then we walked over to the activity chart and we booked the glass bottom boat tour. We had our lunch and went snorkelling. We saw 4 logger head turtles and 3 black tipped sharks, lots of colourful coral and fish and we got swarmed by a group of ginormous fish.
At the buffet we had lots to eat and then walked back to our cabins.
The next morning we were out snorkelling in the lagoon, (you can only snorkel here at high tide). There wasn't as much fish in the lagoon as around the lighthouse. We got out and these birds called the Common Noddy were absolutely everywhere.
We were having our buffet breakfast and these little quail things (the park calls them "Buffet Bandits"), were under the table and trying to steal our meals.
We walked over to the glass bottomed boat and the tour guide took us out looking for mantra rays but we didn't find any but we did find a sleeping turtle. Then we stopped and went snorkeling around that area. After lunch the plane arrived and we set back off for Bunderberg.Read more

Burt Hinkler Aviation Museum, Bundaberg

This museum was all about Burt Hinkler.
There was a real plane and a fake one that you could climb on and there was a big camera with dress ups on the side of it so you could dress up climb in and get a photo.
There was a little theatre that told you about his life story.
Lots of plane simulators and lots of model planes.Read more

Aussie World, Palmview

Today we spent the day at "Aussie World", a fun family theme park on the Sunshine Coast. We went on lots of rides and there were lots of showbags, but the showbags weren't much good. My favourite ride was the "Redback Spider", and my least favourite was the "Booma Zooma". We pretty much had the park to ourselves. It was the day before school holidays started so there were no queues for rides which made it especially awesome! We had chips and nuggets for lunch - even more especially awesome! Our last "play time" before we head home!Read more

Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo

In this zoo you can choose to ride your bike, drive, or just walk. There were bikes and buggies for hire, we rode our own bikes.
We saw all three different types of rhinos. Next to the meerkat enclosure there was an area where you could pretend you were a meerkat. There was a safari tour that took you out into a giant enclosure with lots of different animals but we didn't do that.
There was a huge playground at the end to play on. In the gift shop there were lots of souvenirs and lots of soft toys, some were humungous.Read more

Kidsfest, Kidstown, Shepparton

It was a gold coin donation to get in and they gave us a activity sheet, there were rocks all around the park with painted pictures on them that we had to find.
First we made our own wooden toys and marked our names into them, there was a giant maze we all went through at the end there was an animal club showing people all of their animals, we didn't go on any rides instead we all go a show bag, we walked around a little longer there was a "Nemo" the "cowfish", a learn to dance group, and lots of food stalls.Read more
