Athens to Copenhagen — Day 27: Vienna to Weißenkir

Elubias first real day of the tour, and we couldn’t have asked for a better one. We left Vienna in perfect weather and spent most of the day on beautiful, easy bike paths along the Danube. We passed Klosterneuburg Abbey, stopped for coffee in Tulln, and unexpectedly found a statue of Marcus Aurelius — one of my favorites — right along the old Roman road. Later we came into the Wachau. The Danube Valley in Lower Austria and the scenery completely changed. steep terraced vineyards climbing the hillsides beneath the castle ruins. Finished in tiny Weißenkirchen, beneath its old fortified church, and celebrated at our winery with local Grüner Veltliner and an excellent dinner.
