  • Cadavedo to Luarca 12 miles.

    May 7, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

What I great day I had. Why? Today I had an easy walk that was relatively flat. Just one major hill to climb. So I was a happy Pilgrim all the way to Luarca. Easy walking but not many photo opportunities. .
I did last a couple of beautiful churches that I'll share.

  • Soto de la Luina to Cadavedo 12 miles

    May 7, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

The Camino threw everything it had at me today. Rain forests, stream crossing, 8 hard climbs, ocean vistas, beaches, sunshine, today was great. I passed a sign that said I had 250's Km to go to get to Santiago. That's only 150 miles. Shoot, I'll be there in no time. This journey is going by way to fast. Im going to slow down however, and take a couple of rest days here shortly. I'm staying tonight at a small hotel. The hotel has a backdrop of a farm that goes to the ocean. It's just beautiful.Read more

  • Luarca to Navia 13 miles

    May 9, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

Today was one of the nicest walks that I've had. It was mostly flat with paths though farms and countrysides. The day started out in Luarca, a spectacular city on the ocean and ended in nice little place named Navia. I came upon an ancient burial site that was used a thousand years ago. Very interesting.Read more

  • Navia to Tapia de Casariego

    May 10, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

Not much happened except 13 miles of walking in 5 hour and 15 minutes. No picture opportunities. But tomorrow I go to Ribadeo where I'll take a rest day. Ribadeo is the last town on the coast that I'll see before I head inland. It suppose to be beautiful plus I'll be able to sleep in. 🤠🤠 Yeah!!Read more

  • Tapia to Ribadeo. 8 miles

    May 11, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 61 °F

This morning I had a very pleasant and easy walk from Tapia to Ribadeo. I enjoyed my last ocean views because now I turn inland and hike over the mountains to Santiago. Just 125 miles to go.
I've been looking forward to getting to Ribadeo for weeks. It marks the beginning of the last leg of the Camino. By golly, I think I'm going to make it!!🤠🤠Read more

    May 14, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

I decided to spend some extra time in Lourenzá and get some extra rest. Tomorrow is another 18 mile with 3000 feet elevation gain. So I need to be up for it. Lourenza is a small town. Not much going on. But they do have a beautiful church.Read more

  • Lourenza to Abadin 17 miles

    May 15, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 50 °F

I did it! I thinks that I've crossed over the last major mountains of the Camino. 17 miles , 3000 feet of elevation gain, and close to 6 hours of climbing/hiking through rain and wind. But I made it just fine. A hot shower was very needed when I arrived at the Albergues. .Read more

  • Abadin to Vilalba. 13 miles

    May 16, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 46 °F

This must have been the easiest day that I've had on the Camino Del Norte. 13 miles of mostly downhill and flat walking. I had a nice walk with my Camino friend Stefan who is German from the Frankfurt area.
That's a big difference between the Camino Frances and the Del Norte. On the Frances there are Americans everywhere. But on the Del Norte I can go days without running into another American. So I've been walking mostly with Germans. I've started introducing myself as a German American🤠🤠. .

  • Vilalba to Sobrado do Munxes 35 miles, 3

    May 17, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 57 °F

It's been an unexciting last 3 days. It's been raining almost non stop the whole time. The one exciting thing that did happen was that I slipped in the mud and fell on my back and hips. My backpack saved me from getting really soaked. After my fall my back has been sore and painful. So, I may have to sent my pack ahead the next couple of days. I'm also thinking of taking a rest day here in Sobrado tomorrow so that my back can get better.
I'm posting pictures of two pilgrims. One guy is Stefron. He's a German and we have walked together almost the whole Camino. The other is Fernando who really helped me after my fall in the Mud. Great Guys!!

  • Rest Day in Sobrado du Monxes

    May 19, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F

Rest Day today but I was still able to tour the Cathedral that was build in the 900's. Very impressive!
My back and hips are feeling a lot better so tomorrow I'm off. I will be heading for Aruza which will put me back on the Camino Frances. That's exciting. It will be my third time there so I'm very familiar with the town and the trail heading to Santiago de CompostelaRead more

  • Sobrado du Monxes to Aruza 14 miles.

    May 20, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

I walked today hoping that my back and hip wouldn't give me any problems. I took the precaution of taking 800 mgs of Alive before I started out and it seems to have worked. I was mostly I was pain free the entire walk. But it was an easy walk. Mostly down hill and it was cool. Lovely conditions. Just two more days-yeah!!Read more

  • Arzua to O'Pedrouzo 13 miles

    May 21, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

In O'Pedrouzo at the same Pensión that we were at two years ago.
The Camino Del Norte joined the Camino Frances in Aruza so for the last two stages I'm on the Frances again.
And, you sure can tell the difference. I've seen more Pilgrims today than I've seen on the Norte in 4 weeks. Plus there are Bars here everywhere unlike the Norte. It's a culture shock.
I'm just one day from finishing this walk and I'm starting to get a little emotional. I really don't want it to end😪

  • Touring (walking Madrid 11 miles)

    May 29, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

It’s summertime here in Madrid. It’s 90 degrees and the Spanish people are out enjoying the awesome summer.
And I’m also enjoying the weather. I’v walked alot today. I got up early and went to the Raina Sofia Museum. It is massive. There I got to take in Picasso’s “Guernica.” I was very interested in seeing this painting because the Camino took me through the city of Guernica. And while there I sat on a beach in the cities main square, looking up to sky , and tried to imagine that day in 1939 when Hitlers bombers carpet bombed and destroyed the town. I had much the same reaction as when I visited Pearl Harbor. The experience left me sad but grateful that the city rebounded.
I also got to take a collection of Salvador Dali’s work. After seeing his work I said to myself, this guy is really messed up, 🤠🤠
Madrid is a beautiful City. I’m really enjoying it.

  • Heading Home

    May 31, 2024 in Spain

After 5 wonderful days in Madrid I came on home. And I tell you, sleeping in your own bed is wonderful!!
A few stats, the Camino de Norte took me close to 2 million steps over 829 kilometers or 515 miles in 40 days.
It was just an incredible experience. It was definitely hard and challenging but very rewarding. The scenery was incredibly beautiful and the Spanish people were so kind and sweet. I fell in love with them. .
So now it’s on to next year and a much easier Camino. The Portugeese Camino from Porto to Santiago. After that Camino I’m going to take cruises🤠😎.
