Next town Wemen
4 days ahead of schedule
An easy paddle into Robinvale caravan park this morning. Rest day tomorrow.
Robinvale is a soldier settlement town and a sister city to Villers Bretonneux. Definitely not a tourist town! One IGA and 3 Asian Grocery stores in the main street. Had lunch at JoJo's fish'n'chips run by a Vietnamese family. Friendly, efficient service, good food and reasonable prices. An excellent example of how to run a takeaway business. Outof the 25 people there I was one of only 3 westerners.
Located the right gas cannister (phew!) and got my phone working again after I think the Sim card got wet. All good now.

ResenärI wonder how a town like Robinvale becomes a sister city to a famous place in France? Feeling relieved you have a gas canister again- or hopefully a couple! Hope the rain stays away. Not tempted by a cabin I see!
ResenärYes. I did wonder about that myself. I can only assume a lot of the soldier settlers here fought at V-B. Interestingly the population of Robinvale at about 8,000 is greater than V-B. Enough gas now hopefully to last to around Murray Bridge. And, yes, it is starting to get cold if not rainy. Had my thermals on, beanie and lap rug making my tea this morning!
ResenärApparently the two towns (Robinvale & Villers-Bretonneux) are of similar size and both rely on horticulture as their main economic activity. The relationship was inspired by the death of Lieutenant Robin Cuttle MC, resident of Robinvale, killed near Villers-Bretonneux in 1918 during the First World War. Interesting to discover the origin of the town’s name: “His family renamed their new settlement on the Murray – Robinvale (vale Robin)”.
Robinvale is the home of Australia's largest pistachio processing plant. March-April is harvest - you may find some fresh (unsalted) pistachios in the local shops - well worth looking for. [Eileen]
