Tough day today with 42kms into a north westerly headwind. I was determined to make it to Old Customs House on the SA border for a late afternoon hot meat pie and cold beer. When I got there of course it was closed for a private function and full of teens with wake boats and jetskis. Oh joy!
Also got a hole in the air mattress last night (sorry John) from a spiky stick or something under the tent. Tried repairing it with duct tape in the middle of the night to no avail. I am experimenting with placing lots of leaves and bark under the tent together with my blanket under the deflated mat for extra padding. Seems OK so far.
Just starting to rain now. One of the small pleasures of camping is feeling snug in your sleeping bag on a rainy and windy night!

RejsendeDevil’s elbow looks stunning as do those cliffs! Over the border and onto the final stretch. I’ve been reading “Endurance” which is the story of what happened to Shackleton and his crew after their ship was crushed by ice and sank in Antarctica in 1915. I’ll lend it to you when you are back and you won’t feel so bad about your flat air mattress!
RejsendeYes, it's a pretty inspiring story. You may have already heard it, but Richard Fidler interviewed Tim Jarvis who retraced Shackleton's trip. Really great interview, and certainly puts my minor woes into perspective! Tim J is a friend of Judith and Peter Hibbert btw.
RejsendeI'm not sure whether a patch for rubber would work. There is a camping store in Berri so hopefully I can get something there. In the interim I bought a cheap at Big W ($7.50 would you believe). Weighs a ton and takes 10 minutes to blow up, but it does the job. Yes, it will be great to catch up around Mannum for a couple of days paddling.

RejsendeMight be able to repair it with a bike tube repair kit? Supposedly those mats are indestructible but at least it's gotten some good use by now
