    ready to take off

    February 22, 2021 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

I love these empty airports, it’s very quiet and there’s so much space😂 Well, the mask is a little annoying but it’s worth it. We’ll fly via Madrid and then with an 11hour flight to San José✈️ Hopefully the airline‘s having a good variety of movies.Read more

  • Alajuela

    February 23, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

After s short night (because of jetlag) we ate breakfast with a delicious fresh pinapple and then we went for a walk through the village.
The weather’s amazing and we could take glimpses of the mountains. There are sooo many cables just tangled all over the roofs. It’s a cute place (with a lot of different smells) where we got the „southamerican flair“, it’s nothing like Europe😂
Later we’ll get our rental car to discover the country.🚗

  • Catarata del Toro

    February 23, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

On our way the roads had curves, bumps and were nearly vertical, it was an experience on its own. At the Catarata del Toro nice and despite the price and the very touristic touch it was still a beautiful waterfall!
The waster rushes down for about 85 meter (270 feet). The colors of the rocks and the moss is stunning. The way down was very exhausting because the stairs were so uneven and the air was very humid and hot.🥵
At the visitor center we observed some squirrels abd many hummingbirds, such colorful, tiny and cute flying things with such a fast beat of his wings.

  • Paraíso de Manantiales

    February 23, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Hidden under the rainforest, away from the streets and safed by a very bumpy road, we’ve found this stunning piece of earth. Down to the river we had to take this adventurous path with steps out of tires, a spiral staircase and a more or less safe suspension bridge. We saw at least 6 waterfalls, one even more beautiful than the other, and the stones in the river were so yellowish/ orange...strange.
I had the perfect camouflage shirt on and probably got possessed by a Jungle- Demon or something, judging my weird photos of myself🤷🏻‍♀️

A little further along the path we’ve found this amazing waterfall with totally blue water beneath.
We were so lucky, because the sun shone in the perfect angle and it created a rainbow within the waterdrops of the gigantic fall.
It was so magical down there, all the colors, the smells, the sound of the birds and the water, the blue sky and the sun, just pure magic ✨🌈

  • Volcán Arenal

    February 24, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

It’s so humid and hot today, we’re melting while doing nothing🥵
We went to the Volcano Arenal National Parc and took the 6km long hike. We walked along the gigantic and impressive lava fields and the rainforest. It was surprisingly green, everywhere in the black rocks are growing trees, gras, bushes and many colorful flowers.🌸
The clouds around the volcano were changing constantly so it was every time a different atmosphere we looked up!
We even saw 3 snakes😧 It was very creepy but exciting to see these animals „in real life“🐍
The sounds were amazing too, crickets, birds the wind in the trees, just beautiful and the smells.. just pure nature!

Back in the Hotel we jumped directly into the pool, what a refreshment😎💦

  • Lake Arenal

    February 25, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Today we’re driving to the pacific coast, finally to the beach🌊🏖
We drove the curvy roads through the rainforest, along coloful flowerbushes and cute villages. The forest was just so intensiv green, impressive!! 🌴🌿
Between the trees we could take glimpses down to the big Lake Arenal, there were the colors pretty intensive too. We just had to stop and appreciate the orange of the rocks, the green trees and the blue of the lake.

Suddenly the landscape changed, we were in a very dry and hot desert like environment, only needed camels to be perfect 😂
It was so dam hot and the A/C of the car didn’t helped much. 🔥🥵

  • Las Catalinas McHenry Hike

    February 26, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 35 °C

It was maybe not the best idea to go on a 4km hike somewhere in the rough and nearly desert like mountains.... It was hot, and i mean REALLY hot🥵🔥
We bearly had shadow and the sun just melted our bodies away😂
Sometimes there was a „cold“ breeze but it was like heaven on earth. However, we had a great view over the beautiful beaches, coves and the mountains/ hills all around. So the whole hike was definitely worth it!!☀️
The landscape was very dry and savanna-like with all the weird trees, bushes and cacti.
We saw many lizards and even an iguana.🌵🦎

Now we are desperately looking towards a refreshment in the sea because we sweat like pigs🐖🌊

  • Poor Calzón Beach

    February 26, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

This beach i found while surfing in the FindPenguins-App, so thanks for the tip😉
You have to walk down to the beaches and already from the top you can see the welcoming green, blue and turquoise colors from the water. The sand‘s nearly white and some trees spend shadow, god thanks😂 We run into the waves and just enjoyed the cold water. We’ve planned to snorkel but the water was not clear enough for the prefect view underwater. I still saw some fishes and corals🐟🐠🤿

At the beach were mostly Costa Ricans and it was a nice change to the tourist beaches. They had their chairs and coolers and they played nice latina music so it was perfect to just chill and enjoy the Pura Vida☀️

    February 27, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Today we’re driving from Brasilito to Montezuma. But we decided to take the more adventurous streets, so we left the highway and we landed in the jungle. The street was no longer a street, more many stones who just laying around building a path, a very, very dusty path😂
It was very bumpy and we had to pass through a river about 6 or 7 times. But the view was great, we went up to the „mountain top“ and could see over the land and the mysterious jungle. Sometimes the landscape was just dry and brown and around the next curve the trees, grass and bushes were juicy green. 🌿
    We saw about a 100 lizards/ iguanas and neary a million butterflies🦋

There was practically no traffic and every 30 minuts maybe a car or a motorcycle.

    February 27, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Imagine relaxing in a nice cool swimming pool..

..and suddenly a deer walks around the corner.. eats a little gras and chills just next to you at the pool🦌

Well that’s exactly what happened to us today😂 and while we were still admiring the graceful creature about 13 scarlet macaws were flying around and they landed on the trees above us.😍
They made such a noise it was so much fun and their colors ar just stunning!

For this night we’re staying here in a rescue center for all kinds of animals. They right now have cute little babymonkeys😍
The hotel is a bit outside the village in the jungle. We have a beautiful view over the forest and the sea. The smell is incredible and so are the colors and the best of it are the sounds of the nature🌿
Many crickets and birds are singing their lullaby 🎶

  • Montezuma Falls

    February 28, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

After a dreaming sunrise and very yummy breakfast we walked through the river to the first (there are 3 big ones) waterfall. Up there we found some ropes in the bushes/ roots and of course we had to climb up there! (there are steps for the non adventurous people)
Some parts of the trail were very difficult and kinda dangerous, but i like these kinds of adventure😬
After about 15 minutes we reached the 2nd and the 3rd waterfall! Up there were big pools of water and we found one for our own!
The water was soo refreshingly cold, a dream after the hot and sweatly climbing part😂
It was a bit creepy because the water wasn’t very clear and i couldn’t see everything.. But that’s the deal of adventures, right?
As we were chilling in the pool, a lizard came to the shore and drank, there were many birds and sadley many spiders chilling at the water🤢🕷

  • Puntarenas

    February 28, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

From Paquera we took the ferry to Puntarenas. We were there at about 2pm. At 3 they started to distribute the coupons which we needed to buy our tickets. Their organisation was a organised chaos. Atfer an other hour we were ready to swim the 70 minutes to Puntarenas. We played some Black Stories and judged some people which weren’t wearing their masks correctly🧐
We arrived perfectly for the sunset, an amazing one!

The we walked along the Promenade but it was so dirty, filled with trash and annoying sellers. It smelled very bad too! So we escaped into the the hidden streets where the locals life. There it was much prettier. The colorful houses and the green trees!
Here we saw the extreme differences to our standards of living.

  • Jungle Night Hike

    March 1, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

So tonight we went on a Jungle Night Hike and we were really looking forward to this adventure😎
At 6.15pm we started and we immediately saw 3 deers and click beetles (they glow in the dark)
Before entering the jungle we spotted a tucan and the first spider. In the forest it was already pitch dark and with the flashlights we searched the ground for snakes cause the guide Efraim was looking in the trees and bushes.
We found some really interesting and more or less disgusting animals (spiders🤢).
We spotted many different frogs and even the most famous frog of Costa Rica the red-eyed tree frog!!
Many birds and even a scorpion which glowed under the UV light.🦂
And sadly many diffrent spiders, a whip spider a yellow spider and even 3 tarantulas😭😧 (i really hate spiders🕷) and of course crickets and cockroaches!
It was very hot and humid in the jungle and it was kinda creepy(in a good way) and it was definitely worth it to participate in Efraim‘s great tour!

When we were at diner later we saw a sloth😍
It was so soooo cute and sooo very slow, such a adorable animal!!🦥

  • National Park Manuel Antonio

    March 2, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Today we decided to visit the National Park. At the entrance area many guides were there and blow wistles or were coming intrusive at you to sell you a guided tour and many sellers wanted to sell you water or coconuts🙄
Once we passed all of them we finally entered the park and we were alone on the trails most of the time.

IT WAS SO HOT IN THERE AND SOOO HUMID we nearly melted to death🔥🥵🔥🥵🔥🥵🔥

At the beach areas we’ve found thousands of crabs in tiny shells and a lot of iguanas and big lizards 🦀🐚🦎
The beaches were totally amazing, the pure sand, rock formations and the colorful sea, just a dream!

We spottet a group of capuchin monkeys, one even carrying a baby. It was so fun to watch them jump around and climbing in the trees!

At the visitor center we granted us a ice cream!🍦

  • Monkey and Food Spam.

    March 2, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ 🌙 27 °C

For two night we stayed at a Hostel outside of Quepos next to the National Park Manuel Antonio. We had maybe 1 Minute way to the entrance. Cute tiny village, very touristic, but sometimes it has to be like this😝
Soo tonight we went to the beach to watch the sunset and then go to eat diner. But on our shortcut to the beach we’ve met about 20 squirell monkeys!
THEY WERE SO CUTE😍 just jumping around, playing with each other and the cute noises the make! We had the to our own, no other people just us who could appreciate this precious moment! 🐒

After this spectacle and a marvelous sunset we ate at the Morpho Beach Bar. The guide of the jungle Tour recommended it to us, and THANK YOU. The food was soo delicious (exept the cilantro in the guacamole)
David had some jumbo shrimps and freshly caught salmon with pineapple-mango sauce and i had a steak with mashed potatoes and vegetables at a red wine-pineapple sauce, just delicious! They made nice decorations with strawberries and cucumbers and even the water had a variety of fruits in it🤤

  • on the road 2.0

    March 3, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Today we’re driving away from the pacific coast into the middle our stop will be near Cartago.
Because we think that highways are boring we took a route through the mountains😂
The „streets“ were sometimes soo terrible or even just had sand and so many steep curves and narrow bridges, it was a pure adventure! There were sometimes cows and horses on the road and we were alone on the road for long periods of time. 🐄

We drove relatively high in the mountains, we passed many fields, plantations, colorful flowers, rivers and some houses lost in the middle of nowhere🌸🌼
    (luckily we had enough gas)

But the view was beautiful cause we saw over all the green of the fields and trees and the ocean on the horizon.
Up there the air was so fresh and it was way colder than on sealevel, we were so happy that we could cool down a bit☃️

  • Cot near Cartago

    March 3, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

After the adventurous journey we chilled a bit at our cute bungalow in the garden. Up here (ca. 1800 müM) it’s nearly cold compared to the coast or the humid rainforests. We drove up the hill to explore the region of the volcano Irazú (we couldn’t visit the volcano cause we haven’t a reservation😒) but it’s still a wonderful landscape. Everything is so intensive green and reminded me of Switzerland in the alps! There were even the black- white Holsteiner „swiss cows“. 🐄
Then we observed a beautiful sunset and ate diner with a nice view over Cartago.
When the sun‘s gone it’s dark almost immediately and it got really fresh up there, we had to wear sweaters😅
On the way back to the hotel we had a great view over the lights of the city 🌃

    March 4, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Today we’re driving to the caribbean coast, so exchanging the oceans🌊
But before that trip we had to stop at a doctors office to make a Covid-19 test. WTF, it was the worst feeling i’ve ever had🤭😧
Hopefully we’re both negative or we have little problem cause we can’t take our flight home and go into quarantine! Soo fingers crossed🤞🏼

After that terrible experience we finally hit the road again and of course we took the first opportunity to escape the regular highway and explore the country on the less busy roads.
We drove through cute villages and the rainforest! Saw many rivers, about a million fruit stands, cows and lovely orange flowers on the trees wich made a perfect contrast to the green.

Suddenly a black cloud came up in the sky, it rained for about 2 minutes but at least it cooled everything a bit down and the car’s clean(er) again🌧

We chilled in the pool and the hammock.

Then the beach called us and of course we had to follow the sound of the waves🌊

On the way back we drove through Puerto Viejo, a very lively and colorful village with a lot of cyclists and surfer.🏄‍♂️
There is also a nice black sand beach! The sand is so unbelievably soft and it feels so funny to walk in it. The green trees and palms make such a cool contrast! 🌴(pictures are still on camera)

We stopped at Cahuita, a cute village too! Sadly we were a bit late to visit the national park, i think an hour is not enough to explore this piece of earth, maybe next time😣
