  • Camping Les 2 Rivières

    Jul 20–22 in France ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Beautiful campsite, small rivers to swim in and a heated pool! To top it off, an on-site bakery, we fetch out croissants and pan chocolate at 8am for breakfast! And a pizza van is coming tomorrow!
Jax is loving swimming, hopefully she will be able to on her own by the end of the trip.
Ols is working tomorrow and there is great WiFi here, so it is a perfect stop for us.

Update: managed to find an awesome run that Ols and I both did in the forest.
Our favourite pizza was : cheese base, potato, Gorgonzola and chicken!

The torrential rain was wild, one minute we were putting sun cream on, the next we were running for cover 😂.

In a nut shell, just what we needed as a family, a day of down time and chilling!

  • Watching Tour de France from Montmeyran

    July 23 in France ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

    What an experience!
Walked out for Sean's driveway to the main road (300m) and we were on the tour de France route!
It starts with all the sponsors coming through in what they call a caravan. They pump music out of their themed vehicles and throw freebies into the crowd! (Mental!!) 12km of vehicles and takes about an hour.
Then about an hour later the race comes through which lasts about 4min, the motorbikes and team cars follow at a rate of speed! Terrifying and exhilarating!
We got interviewed by the local paper as we were all wearing our SA tops and made the newspaper!

Found a Motorhome Aire parking for 2night so we could explore the mountains. Stevie(our motorhome) made it up a very steep road in 2nd and 30km and hour 🎉

We took our first chair lift with kids and hiked 5km round trip to the lake, the kids were absolute legends.

Lots of fun activities to do which included, trampolining, luge rail, hiking, min zip line. And of course crepes for dinner!

  • Serre Chevalier Valley

    Aug 3–5 in France ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Driving past and we saw a sign for a pump track, so we turned around and found it!

Jax and I found a natural pool, which was freezing, but we loved the swim!

Ollie and AJ hung out the pump track, AJ had a little fall, but got up and kept going, nothing like a little tarmac knee burn.

We found a motorhome Aire 2min away, which means we can walk to th gondola in the morning for a mountain adventure.

  • Mountain mission to 2550ft

    August 4 in France ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We took the gondola to mid mountain and then the Telecabin right to the top to see the glacier from a far, no walking today!

We didn't last long at the top as it was rather chilly and we decided not to walk down as planned as AJs little fall on the track the day before had made his knee quote sore.

We went back down in the Telecabin to mid mountain, where there were some lovely restaurants and lots of activities to do.

  • A not so 'nip' over the Col de Galibier

    August 4 in France ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

When we sat down for a pint of the local brew, Galibier beer, in Briançon, we both took one sip, looked at each other, and said, “YUM!” A quick Google search told us the brewery wasn’t too far away in kilometres. We weren’t sure if we’d have time to visit, but we decided to keep it in mind.

By 6 p.m., the kids were having full-scale meltdowns, and nothing seemed to be snapping them—or us—out of it. We checked again. The brewery was only an hour away. “Why not nip over?” we thought. A change of scenery could only help.

What we hadn’t accounted for was the most spectacularly steep and winding road EVER. No turn-around points, just keep climbing. So, in first gear all the way, our trusty van crawled up to the top of the Col du Galibier—2,642 m above sea level!

At the summit, a narrow tunnel awaited. Coming out the other side feels like you’re about to drive straight off the edge of the world.

Then came the descent: a winding road, windows rolled down, marmots calling in the distance, all the way to the charming village of Valloire.

An adventure we didn't know was about to happen!

Ps. There a few pics that are not mine, as I was to scared to even look out the window at points 😂

  • Vallorie

    Aug 4–6 in France ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

What a gem of a village.
It had a pump track, a large pool, an ice rink and a stunning setting.

Oh, and we managed to find the Galibier Brewery!
