There was a time in Hawaiian history when if you broke a rule, called a kapu, the punishment was death. If you were a particularly fast runner, or really good in a dugout canoe, and you could escape from your jailers, you could make your way to a place of refuge. These are walled sanctuaries that if you could make it there you’d be safe and then forgiven of your kapu. This location stands on the site of a place of refuge. It was really interesting to walk around, and explore the village. It’s a US national park, so I used the NPS app for a good walking tour.もっと詳しく
