Drive to Wilpena Pound

Quaintest historic town we went through was Peterborough only 1000 people with a gear vibe. Arrived Wilpena Pound Campground 4pm and set up for a 10 night stay.
1st day exploring Wilpena Pound Campsite

Lots of walks to do from the campsite so a day without needing to get in the car. There’s an IGA, cafe and restaurant with lots of accommodation options including glamping tents.
Accommodation choices at Flinders Ranges

As well as powered and unpowered sites, a range of other options for staying at Flinders Ranges. Motel rooms, lodges, basic and luxury safari tents.

Ventured a bit further out on foot to get some great views and explore the local history.

Working our way up from easy to moderate walks. Yesterday hillier but shorter distance. Both rewarding with great views.

A thriving sheep and cattle community in mid 1800s fought over land and water rights and when copper prospectors came in pretty much ruined the land.

Drive to Kulgera

Last leg to Ayers Rock Resort

First day at Ayers Rock

Up for sunrise and visit to Cultural Centre. . Back for buffet breakfast then returned to Rock for dune and waterhole walks. Late lunch then or to scrumptious Sound of Silence Dinner.
