• Santa We’ve Been Good

    4. december, Finland ⋅ ☁️ 0 °C

Today’s venture was to Santa’s village. One thing we love here is the later starts to the morning. We woke to see the snow was no longer falling and what snow there had been was now slush. It made walking a bit precarious and we are even more careful after Brad’s big fall.

We made our way to Santa’s village with my “must do” list. I think I had more expectations of Santa’s village but it is in fact more accomodation than places to see. Of course you do get to meet Santa - if you are happy to line up. Even knowing this is a huge tourist trap it was a must do for me, and thankfully Brad, Peta and Errol love me enough to wait in line for almost two hours, just to meet the big man himself. I will also add he seemed pretty young for Santa but he was happy to meet us and ask us what our Christmas wishes were.
$83 Australian dollars later and I had a photo to capture the moment. There is nowhere else in the world I would spend that much on just one photo

That ticked we went to Santa’s Post Office to send some post cards home from the Arctic Circle. Hope Archer’s card arrives before we get home.

Next was to cross into the Arctic Circle. Lapland is the northernmost region of Finland, and it is famous for being the home of the Arctic Circle, which runs through the region. The Arctic Circle is the line of latitude that marks the boundary where the sun can be continuously above or below the horizon for 24 hours a day.

In my research these all came up as things you “must do” but to honest it really is a huge tourist trap and did not feel authentic in any way. Not that I should have expected anything different. I will admit though I am very happy with our Santa photo so I feel it was worth it.

We made our way back to Rovaniemi and decide to go back to our lunch venue from the other day to enjoy a warm lunch out of the cold weather. And of course we enjoyed another glass of their Christmas Spritz.
