    I left the Derwent Valley Heritage Way at Rowsley and was able to follow a route my eldest granddaughter, Naomi, had an uploaded onto the OS app for me when I was in the early stages of planning. We had designed this little bit of route attempting to avoid going over the very top of a big hill. In fact it turned out to go up quite a big hill BUT it's huge benefit was that it mainly avoided a huge group of sponsored walkers who were VERY LOUD. I did cross their route a couple of times but that was all. Splendid cause - terrible noise pollution!
    The first part of the route was very under utilised - i. e. extremely overgrown but as I climbed the hill, the views got better and better - at least until the heavens opened and I had to leap rapidly into my waterproofs - another "soak you to the skin" downpour if not adequately equipped. Still raining, I made it back into Bakewell which was predictably busy but I was soon on the bus, having "closed the circle" of my route
