    1️⃣ STOP: TOKYO

I was immediately delighted by the kindness of Japanese people. They're Always ready to give you help even if not everyone speaks english. They're very welcoming and helpful to tourists.

Tokyo is a huge mix of advanced technology and consumerism on one side and ancient traditions and culture on the other. Those two create unique vibes in the city that attract people from all over the world.

The oldest temple in Tokyo, completed in 645 and dedicated to Kannon, the goddess of mercy.

    ⛩️ Atago Shrine 愛宕神社

    🛕 Zōjō-ji Temple 増上寺
The temple's Sangedatsumon (main gate) is the oldest wooden building in Tokyo, dating from 1622. The original buildings, temples, mausoleums and the cathedral were destroyed by fire, natural disasters or air raids during World War II.

  • Nikko

    October 27, 2024 in Japan ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

    2️⃣ STOP: NIKKO

Nikko is nothing short of enchanting, surrounded by nature. The temples and the trees give an enchanting experience. You can breath history and spirituality, together with fresh air and being amazed by the colours.

    ⛩️ Shinkyo Bridge
Sacred bridge at the entrance to Nikko’s shrines

    ⛩️ Rinno-Ji Temple
The temple's main building, the Sanbutsudo, houses large, gold lacquered, wooden statues of Amida, Senju-Kannon ("Kannon with a thousand arms") and Bato-Kannon ("Kannon with a horse head"). The three deities are regarded as Buddhist manifestations of Nikko's three mountain deities.

    ⛩️ Toshu-Gu Shrine
The lavishly decorated shrine complex consists of more than a dozen buildings set in a beautiful forest. Countless wood carvings and large amounts of gold leaf were used to decorate the buildings in a way not seen elsewhere in Japan, where simplicity has been traditionally stressed in shrine architecture.

    ⛩️ Futarasan Shrine
It's dedicated to the deities of Nikko's three most sacred mountains: Mount Nantai, Mount Nyoho and Mount Taro. Futarasan is an alternate name of Mount Nantai, the most prominent of the three mountains.

    ⛩️ Taiyu-In Temple
Taiyuin is the mausoleum of Tokugawa Iemitsu, grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
