After a week of long tours, we took the day off to explore a bit of Shinjuku before heading to the Ghibli Museum and then to a traditional Japanese houseboat for dinner. It started raining almost immediately, so we were lucky to be mostly inside.
We took a cab to Mikata to visit the museum and it was magical! The rain added to the cozy atmosphere of the whimsical building designed by Miyazaki himself. Totoro greeted us at the entrance and inside was an amazing trip through film history and so many of the movies we love. We are so glad we managed to get tickets - it was an unforgettable experience!
Afterwards, we braved the rain to hail a cab to the pier, where we boarded a traditional Japanese houseboat for sukiyaki and an evening of music. It was lovely, if a bit cold and lacking in vegetarian options.Read more
