  • Folkestone

    September 13, 2022 in England ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

After leaving home on Sunday and two overnighters we finally arrive at Folkestone with 674 miles under the belt. It’s wet and miserable, no different from back home really 😉 - usually . We are at the Three Hills Sports Centre / Folkestone Cricket Club car park for the night. Not very inspiring but hey, it’s free - happy days. And tomorrow- through the Tunnel to Calais and onwards to BruggeRead more

  • Beautiful Brugge

    September 15, 2022 in Belgium ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

I am soooo glad that my 20 odd years of being allergic to Beer is now behind me, after all we are in Belgium the home of the micro brewery. And my god, from the odd one I’ve sampled 😉, they are good 🍺🍺👍. Brugge is beautiful and Camping Memling is a 10 minute ride into the center. Today was dry and quite warm, the ideal way to cycle round Brugge to sample its charms.Read more

Too much rain in Belgium, heading South to Arras..
Fab afternoon tour of Wellington Quarries underground caverns used in WW1, incredible!

  • Bailed out of Belgium

    September 17, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Ghent was a bit like home - it never stopped raining so instead of heading to another Belgium town we bailed out and headed into France to the town of Arass. It’s a pity because there was a lot to see in Ghent but heyho maybe we will be back sometime. Photo of Leo bogged down in the damp. Onwards to Arass. And what tales there are to tell about this townRead more

  • Arras

    September 18, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Another great town worthy of a visit for its architecture and history especially WW1. 60’ under Arras and the surrounding area are 19kms of caves and tunnels where 24,000 soldiers were housed waiting to ascend close to the Front Line on April 9th 1917 at The Battle Of Arras. The tour is well worth a visit.
And where better to finish the day than in one of the town squares people watching - with a 🍺
And now onwards to next destination

Lovely bike ride along the canal today, but windy but dry!! I was a wee bit worried cycling along a corn field - too many Horror movies in my youth! Ha ha
Now for some roast chicken and mushroom risotto.
Overnight stop at Camping de La Frette aire before heading South again tomorrow.

    September 18, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

No towns, no squares, no people watching. Just chilling after a 12 mile jolly on the bikes. But onwards we go tomorrow to Chalon Du Champagne. Could be a wee few Champers samples being tried out the next few days 🥂Read more

  • Theres never a ‘wrong’ turn………

    September 19, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Never a wrong turn in a moho, just other places you need to see! Well that is what we told ourselves whilst trying to get to grips with the inputting of co-ordinates to the sat nav!! When she took us to a lovely field we just turned round and went the other way!
Eventually found our spot for tonight and cycled into a Chalons en Champagne for a reccy to see where the railway station was for tomorrow. Passed the beautiful Cathédrale Saint-Étienne de Châlons.
Went into Carrefour and picked up a bottle of wine for our evening meal……anyone spot the mistake? 🤣🤣🍷

What a fabulous day! Cycled to railway station in Chalons en Champagne, bikes on train to Reims and cycled to Taittenger Champagne House.
Tour of the 4km underground caves where the bottles are hand riddled and stored to mature into the bubbly stuff we all know and love. Then up to the surface for a Tatty Tasting - Yummy!Read more

  • 🥂

    September 20, 2022 in France ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Parked up last night and tonight In the town of Chalons En Champagne. Slap bang in the middle of Champers country. Today - 15 minute bike ride into town and then onto the train with the bikes for a 40 minute trip to Reims. How cool are the French trains round about here - bike racks in every car . Reims is another good stop in our travels and the Tattinger story was well worth it . 4 Kms of caves, (originally hacked out by the Romans) where we were, holding 2 million bottles. A further 10 kms of caves belonging to Tattinger hold another 20 million- fascinating. And then into town for a beer before heading back to Leo. All in all a great day
    On the road again tomorrow.

  • The one that got away……

    September 21, 2022 in France ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

After encouraging our little friend to move on we headed off from Chalons en Champagne with a lovely drive South East passed through L’Epine where there was a stunning church.
Found a fabulous spot! First time using France Passion. Domaine de L’Ecart fishery and Steve is in his element! Unfortunately they ALL got away 😜🎣 Just as well I bought some salmon to make a Thai curry with this evening!
Completely free, just €19 for his fishing.
So relaxing and I’m sure a quiet night ahead with only the sound of nature to lull us to sleep 💤

  • Grape House No2

    September 22, 2022 in France ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Today we ended up in Toul, parked up on a France Passion site, in the middle of town, called Domaine De L’Ambroisie Distillery. Enough room for one MH I’d say. A small private affair making wines, liquors and jams. And after a few samples a wee purchase was made 😉🥂. A bit different from the lush setting of yesterday but heyho every day is different. Toul itself - we’ve been to prettier places and and better ones to come I’m sure. The beauty of France Passion membership is the diversity of the sites you can stopover at. Every day is a school day. Tomorrow off to Colmar area.

    September 23, 2022 in France ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Didn’t think we’d get here as it’s so busy - all camp sites were full so Park for Night came to the rescue!
So glad we made it as Colmar is pretty special - would love to come back when the Christmas market is on!Read more

  • Its not all Medieval Streets

    September 23, 2022 in France ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

As you drive south and get to the Alsace region the landscape begins to change - from flat and rather uninteresting farming country to a more of a hilly, forest and vineyard area. Colmar, probably the biggest town in this area is quite a size and urban. And on driving in you wonder if you have come to the right place after watching countless YouTube videos. But in its heart is the medieval center we all come to see. Definitely recommend a stopover for a night or two allowing time to see Colmar by day and night - Majority of restaurants seem to open at 7ish . Touristy cafes etc are open during the dayRead more

  • Millefeuille anyone ?

    September 24, 2022 in France ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

My god did it rain today. We were heading Southish to Bescançon apparently looking for the sun and heat which is in short supply at the moment in most of France - I guess it is autumn. The park didn’t open until 3 so rather wait and hope for a spot we headed off And ended up in Quincey a smallish town but on a beautiful spot on the river. BUT, mid journey we stopped off for a Cafe au Lait and our first taste of true French patisserie- and wow were they good, in fact Tres Bon. And to top it off I had the best Tuna sarnie ever ( I generally only eat tuna sandwiches.) Got a bit stressful not knowing where we would end up but the day ended well. Decisions to be made over the next few days on whether or not we head to Annecy and Chamonix or go due South to the Med for hopefully a warmer climate.
Nearly forgot - check out the Pizza machine 🥴

  • Elbow Grease!

    September 25, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

It’s not all glam when you’re motorhoming! Housekeeping has to happen there too! First things first though - Steve headed out for some goodies from the Boulangerie for brekkie (croissants and pain au chocolate of course). Followed by coffee - have to have some home comforts on tour!
Then the elbow grease kicked in! Leo spruced inside and out and washing done, dried and put away! Time to relax and plan our next stop.

    September 26, 2022 in France ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Drove to Dijon and picked up some smelly stuff for the loo and a SIM card (blooming Brexit and roaming restrictions!)
Drove to the South of Dijon to a little France Passion stopover where they make Crème de Cassis! Yum! Hoping for a tasting in the morning as it just wouldn’t stop raining long enough for us to get to the wee shop!! Even Ronnie is willing it to stop…..😜
Thank goodness for the new sim card and a couple of episodes of Lucifer before an early night!
