    Delayed

    7 мая, Соединенные Штаты ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

It started out we could not get a one-way rental car. Not a single company has a car for rent that we can take to Gainesville, so now we have to take our car and that means we both have to drive a vehicle home at the end

We were supposed to leave today, the RV place asked for one more day. Said everything was done, they just had to do the electrical.

Called them today and suddenly it’s not done. They said the part hadn’t arrived.

We were on speakerphone and we both lost our ever loving minds. I accused the guy of lying to us because he told us yesterday the work was done. He said he had been lied to. I honestly didn’t know how to respond to that.

They’re going to take someone else’s part and put it on our van - and I guess the other customer can lose their mind on a different day.
    SMH.

    Today is 20 years married.

    Settling in

    9 мая, Соединенные Штаты ⋅ ☁️ 77 °F

Other than the gremlins messing with our air conditioner today (got up to 85 before it decided to magically start working) we are settling in nicely. Chili is what’s for dinner and midnight found a comfy spot to guard the van from. She made friends with two German Shepherd, puppies, but there was a shady looking pug that walked by - she went nuts.Читать далее

Dropped off our van, hopefully for the last time, they said they should have it back soon. But then a different guy said one of the parts wouldn’t be here till Wednesday.
After dealing with those dingdong’s, we went and grabbed lunch. I have legit never had a better ice cream sandwich.

    23 мая, Соединенные Штаты ⋅ ☁️ 82 °F

Hi all. As most of you know the delays have been numerous. After a few tears, we decided to postpone Alaska and stay in the lower 48 this year. It’s still going to be epic.
Denise has never been to Niagara Falls - so we are going to hit the finger lakes, the Great Lakes, Lake, Tahoe, and a bunch of lakes in between. 17 lakes in all with 12 other bodies of water. That’s why we’re calling it. The great US lake tour. We leave Tuesday so follow along and we will post as we go. Here’s a picture of the route: Maine to California - coast to coast and north to south.Читать далее

    Toccoa River

    28 мая, Соединенные Штаты ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

We decided to go kayaking on the Toccoa River in Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Now first off… whoever designed a two-person inflatable kayak clearly hates marriage.

For the first ten minutes, Dee and I paddled like two raccoons fighting over a trash can. We kept spinning in circles because apparently if one person paddles on the left, the other person ALSO cannot paddle on the left unless your goal is “pirouette directly into rocks.”

    Which we did. Repeatedly.

Eventually we figured it out and actually started doing pretty good. Floating down the river, beautiful scenery, sunshine, birds chirping… honestly one of the most fun days I’ve had in years.

Then came - let’s call it - The Spider Incident.

We’re “accidentally” heading under this low tree branch, so I duck a little. Then I notice a spiderweb. So I duck lower.

    Then I see the spider.

This was not a normal spider. This thing looked like it paid taxes. Biggest most horrifying spider I’ve ever seen. I launched myself into the middle of the kayak like a Navy SEAL evading enemy fire while Dee screamed, “WHAT IS HAPPENING?”

    But somehow we survived.

    Barely.

Now here’s the important part: at the end of the river, there’s a boat launch where you pull out, and the campground shuttle picks you up and drives you back.

    Wonderful system.

Unless you MISS THE BOAT LAUNCH.

    Which we did.

So we just pass it - I jump out thinking, “No problem, I’ll just pull the kayak back upstream.”

    The river immediately humbled me.

Current grabbed my legs, sucked me under, and suddenly Dee is floating away downriver by herself while I’m fighting for my life against what apparently was Class 97 rapids.

Dee’s panicking (as she spins along the bank). I’m drowning with confidence. She finally grabs a tree branch. But she’s in flip-flops.

Meanwhile I had actual water shoes on and STILL could barely stand because the rocks were slick and the current was trying to send me to Flordia.

At this point I realize there is absolutely no way Dee is getting this kayak back upstream, so I basically army-crawled through the river one slippery rock at a time until I reached her hanging onto that tree branch for dear life.

I fought the current and finally got her to an opening on shore.

Not the boat launch, by the way. We never made it to the boat launch.

Exhausted, defeated and looking like a drowned rat - someone took pity on me and helped me get the boat out (I might have stood there a minute pulling the girl card).

    10/10 experience.

    Would absolutely almost drown again.

    Barter Theater

    31 мая, Соединенные Штаты ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

This was my favorite stop by far. One of the oldest theaters in the nation. It’s called the Barter Theatre because during the Great Depression the owner would let patrons barter for tickets. He called it Ham for Hamlet. Farmers could bring in food to see a play. One year he grossed $4.35 but collected almost 300 pounds of food.

Another interesting fact when a theater closed in New York City, the owner went and got a whole bunch of stuff to fill his theater. Including lights that Thomas Edison himself had designed and installed in the first theater.

We saw the da Vinci code, which was one of Denise‘s favorite movies. It was a really good play.

Many famous actors have gotten their start here. There’s even an actual Tony award on display because the actress wanted this theater to have it when she passed.
