    We have to admit that we cherished the closeness to China during our stay in Laos and went to lots of Chinese restaurants where possible 😅 but apart from that our diet consisted mainly of sticky rice with grilled meat and noodle soup…. Always noodle soup 🤤Baca lagi

    Entering Vietnam

    Such a cool border crossing, getting from Laos to Dien Bien Phu brings you from high mountains to wide flat rice fields in a valley. You notice immediately that Dien Bien Phu is a proud city where the Vietnamese conquered the French. Everywhere people wear Vietnam T-shirt’s, old war helmets and the red flag with a star is hung all over the city. We are slowing running out of time to catch our flight in Bangkok which is why we have to take the night Bus to Hanoi.Baca lagi

    Hanoi

    When we get to Hanoi we are overwhelmed with millions of motorbikes on the streets. We actually get into a traffic jam with our bicycles 😅 Coming from the mountains of Laos to Hanoi, we were shocked by the masses of people on the streets celebrating the weekend where the streets of the old town become car free and music, games and food take over the streets.
    Finally another luxury night bus takes us further south… 😊    Baca lagi

    Hoi An

    We stop our journey south in Hoi An. A town full of lanterns and bicycle taxis. We realise that it’s the beginning of Vietnamese summer holidays and we struggle to find our last night bus that should take us to Ho-chi-Minh city. Finally we find a bus with with questionable security measures, our bicycles are secured on the roof of the bus and our „seats“ are a wooden board with a small mattress which we share with 4 other people. This is definitely where our limits of private space is tested 😅Baca lagi

    Green, green, green

    From Ho-Chi-Minh-city we finally resume cycling again. We cycle through the narrow lanes of the lush green Mekong delta - the rice bowl of Vietnam. Left and right we see dragonfruit cacti farms, pomelo orchards, coconut forests, and boats transporting rice. It’s cycling heaven (especially cos it’s all flat 😉)Baca lagi

    Karaoke in the Mekong Delta

    Second day in the Mekong delta and we stumble upon a cocoa farm that makes its own chocolate. The french brought the plant to Vietnam but since they left many farmers abandoned planting cocoa due to lack of knowledge on how to make chocolate. Later on we get dragged to a karaoke party to celebrate the day of the dead. It’s certainly a very merry way to celebrate death. 😀Baca lagi

    On our way back

    We are back in Europe!!! First difference: Melissa is not sweating ALL the time anymore. 🤣 But we seem to have brought back the monsoon to Germany. The first two nights sleeping in the woods it rained heavily. Luckily on our second night we found a wonderful wood shed!Baca lagi

    Home sweet home

    From Cheese to Rice and back to Cheese again… 🍚 🧀
    Even though we didn’t make it all the way to China, we still cycled through many rice paddies. And along the way to the lands of Rice we collected other amazing food memories. But most importantly we are thankful of all the beautiful encounters we had with so many people. To all those who hosted us, helped us, fed us and cycled with us, we send you a big THANK YOU! ❤️
