Megyer-hegy Tarn & Tokaj wine cellars

Took train to Sarospatak, and hiked to Megyer-hegy Tarn (site of an old millstone mine, which was operated on the volcanic hill from 15-17th century). There is also a large lookout tower here, which gives a view of the countryside. We continued to Tokaj (one of Europes oldest wine regions) where there are lots of underground wine cellars. Mostly the cellars are privately owned, they vary a lot in size. Some are small and narrow while others have seating for large groups. Some of the winemakers are selling their wine from the cellars, our favourite was Fricker wines.Les mer
