Day trip to Kutna Hora from Prague. Main attraction is Sedlec Ossuary, underground church ornately decorated with bones which were removed from the cemetery when it was downsized. No photos allowed, so have to settle for pic of brochure!Read more

  • Cesky Krumlov

    May 5, 2023 in Czech Republic ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Spent 3 nights in this gorgeous little UNESCO town (had planned to stay 1), absolutely loved it. During peak season, pre covid, they got around 150 tour busses a day! So we were lucky to experience it when it was relatively quiet.Read more

  • South Moravia cycle

    May 8, 2023 in Czech Republic ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

55km Cycle loop, starting/ending in Mikulov.
We rented bikes from Mikolovna bike hire in Mikulov, they have a few suggestions for cycle routes available on their website. This one took us through Valtice & very close to Austrian border. It was around 80% on cycle trails, mostly gravel/dirt and easy to follow. More hills thank I was expecting 🥵
It also took us past some interesting monuments & pretty lakes. There are lots of places to stop along the way to sample the local wine, our favourite was Vican Winery

  • Brno

    May 10, 2023 in Czech Republic ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Brno is the second biggest city in Czechia. We were there on a Wednesday and there was lots going on, food market in Zelny’trh square, beer and hot food stalls in another square and a stand with live music & DJ’s . We visited the underground labyrinth and also the ossuary which were both really interesting. There is a large Vietnamese population living here (Vietnamese are the largest non-European minority in Czechia) so we decided to try the Pho, did not disappoint 🤤Read more

  • Slovak Paradise

    May 13, 2023 in Slovakia ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Two hikes in Slovak Paradise. Sucha Bela (13KM) this one was fun as has lots of ladders and bridges across the gorge, hike is not too difficult. Prielom Harnadu (17KM) mostly along the river, there is a really nice viewpoint where you can see high tatras on a clear day (we could not but still an impressive view), they even had a beer dispenser along the way!Read more

  • Tatras

    May 15, 2023 in Slovakia ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

Hike in high Tatras, still lots of snow around so we were limited in choice of trails. It was also raining as we headed up, but sky cleared to give us some amazing views. We started at Starý Smokovec and took the Mala studena dolina (small cold valley) trail towards Zamkovského Chalet. We made it about 3 quarters of the way to chalet before we had enough of the snow ❄️Read more

  • Kosice

    May 19, 2023 in Slovakia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We spent two days in Kosice, we took a day trip to Spis castle, during this time, but still had a chance to see the highlights of the city. The old town has beautiful architecture, wide streets a and lots of very cute coffee shops. There is a small craft market at the weekend. There are a number of interesting murals around the city, completed by artist from different countries, which were commissioned by the Arts Council. Also visited Tobacka Kulturfabrik, an old tobacco factory which is now a cultural centre, and Kino Usmev Bar and cinema. The cinema has been operating since 1929 and they serve drinks in the shady garden out front. We had some delicious local food, including pickled goats cheese and sampled some of the locally brewed beers 🍻Read more

  • Megyer-hegy Tarn & Tokaj wine cellars

    May 21, 2023 in Hungary ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Took train to Sarospatak, and hiked to Megyer-hegy Tarn (site of an old millstone mine, which was operated on the volcanic hill from 15-17th century). There is also a large lookout tower here, which gives a view of the countryside. We continued to Tokaj (one of Europes oldest wine regions) where there are lots of underground wine cellars. Mostly the cellars are privately owned, they vary a lot in size. Some are small and narrow while others have seating for large groups. Some of the winemakers are selling their wine from the cellars, our favourite was Fricker wines.Read more
