  • Mazarife to Astorga

    20. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

291/800 ks to go. All of a sudden this epic walk is going quickly. We are all in good form, and that’s great. Astorga is a beautiful town with incredible sights to see. Streets are alive with locals out and about, it’s got a beautiful vibe. The Cathedral is spectacular as is the Gaudi building known as the bishops palace.Les mer

  • Astorga to Rabanal de Camino

    21. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Well, there goes another 20 ks towards Camino de Santiago 2024. I say that lightly, there’s always effort required and that fourth hour of walking is the toughest, the day started with a lots of fun and belly laughs. By now we have made friends along the way and if you didn’t call them friends, you’d definitely call them characters, for sure. There were lots of villages along the way today, so lots of stops, great play lists, it seemed in most of them. The vibe was high and all is good, and we are grateful.Les mer

  • We’re in Molinaseca

    23. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

30 and 31/40 Cute town to rest in. I have some thoughts about how long this Camino is taking. I remind myself I chose this. Think 2025 I’ll go play pickleball instead of hiking . Or, swimming, or stand up paddle boarding. Or just sit on my couch. 🤯🚶‍♀️😩.Les mer

  • Fog andVines

    24. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Day 33 I think. We were shrouded in fog we walked into Ponferrada, swung past the famous Castle and out the city through vines to Villafranca. Was a lovely day and tonight in lovely accommodation where we stayed last year with some familiar Camino faces here too. Sophie has arrived in Santiago and I’m excited to see her. 👏👏👏👏👏🎉💃🎉 About 180km to go. I’m guessing.Les mer

  • Villa Franca to Las Herrerios

    25. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Magic, magic, magic all around today. Walking in the rain didn’t seem to deter the Camino Magic today at all. It is said walking the Camino can be broken down into 3 stages; 1 - Body, 2 - Mind, 3 - Soul/Spirit. The body is obvious, this is physically challenging. The mind is challenged because there are many occasions where you will question what you are doing walking across Spain. The Soul/Spirit is said to be uplifted in the final stages, and that was true for us today. We all feel, lighter and happier for the day we’ve had 🙏🏼💫🧡Les mer

  • River walk to Las Herrerias

    25. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

Day 33. After a nice stay at Villafranca where we had excellent food which is unusual on the Camino. It’s usually light on green vegetables and protein unless you like pork which I do not we set off walking 20k on the low route unlike last year where we took the high route. It was a very pleasant walk with the sound of the river rushing by all day. The colour of the water was icy lake blue/green. Mesmerising. Today was magic stumbling upon another place for lunch, all yogic vibes and music and welcoming host with home cooked delicious simple food all in a danish style renovated old building. The river ran through at the back of his property. Very tempted to do an ice plunge all wim hof style but resisted. We felt so nurtured by the vibe and the owner that we lingered for an hour and a half leaving fully refreshed and energy uplifted. Just what we needed! 👼🧘🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️After today we have 7 days left to walk. 💕💙💕💙💕💙💕💪Les mer

  • Over O Cebriero

    26. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

Day 34/40 Yesterday we rested in a valley by the river at Las Herrerios. Today we walked up 8km to the high point of the mountain range leading us into Galicia. And then another 12 to our accommodation. Most of the day was misty and drizzling and at times our fingers were freezing. Maximum 8 degrees minimum 4 degrees today. Thoroughly enjoyed the crisp weather and the warmth of the cosy bars with open fires on the way up. Beautiful bowl of soup hit the spot at the top in the town of O Cebriero. Bagpipes playing welcomes us into the town which brought a tear to the eye. 🥲Les mer

  • Sarria to Portomarin

    28. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

And now we are four, Sophie has arrived and brought the spirit with her. We will all walk into Santiago together. Beautiful day, walking once again in the mystical early morning fog, which cleared to a very spectacular day. Today has been some of the prettiest scenery we’ve had, green fields, stone walls, incredible fences, we could have been walking through a happy fairytale. Oh, and spectacular butterfly’s, they make it all the more magical. Not long to go now. 🦋🍁🍂Les mer

  • Portomarin

    28. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Day 36/40. Soph truly brought the happy joyful vibe today. She loved the 20k walk we did through very green Galicia. A foggy morning, Loads of mossy stone walls, past farms, at least a dozen butterflies we saw. Dodged the cows I don’t trust them anymore, saw donkeys, horses, dogs lying in streets, a group of happy Spaniards singing traditional songs. Corn fields, trickling streams, a gorgeous walk under sunny skies when the fog lifted. Only 4 more walking days.Les mer

  • Palas de Rei

    29. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Day 37/40 38,000 steps today. 24k. A hard days walking through some forests but mostly farmland. Soph’s knee hurting her all day. Trooper pushed on with no breaks in case the leg seized up. Felt very long day. Lost Maria and Michael on the way. Didn’t stop for long breaks as Soph was on a mission today. Good effort for the new pilgrim. 67k to go. 3 days walking left.Les mer

  • Portmarin to Palas de Rei

    29. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Not many photos today, probably a reflection on a long and hard day of walking. We did have a lot of lovely forest walking to begin with and then we went into farmland which was beautifully verdant. Lots of people from here on in, big groups carry a variety of flags and full of enthusiasm. A little more challenging to be fully absorbed by the natural beauty surrounding us.Les mer

  • Palas de Rei to Castaneda

    30. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Just 2 days to go to complete our Camino, we were spoilt with all the forest bathing today, it’s quite the tonic for the body and soul. Another 25 ks completed, there will be more tomorrow and the next. For now, it’s feet up and recovery time.Les mer

  • O Pedrouzo

    31. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Day 39/40. Today’s walk was 27km. 39,000 steps. Soph coped very well. Saw a bunch of pilgrims with witches hats on for Halloween. Lots of cafes and albergues were closed as it’s a public holiday here. It’s also the end of the season for the Camino. It’s a brave pilgrim who would set out heading into winter to walk this path. You’d need to carry plenty of food and accommodation less available. Strangely we saw no one we knew on the way today. People we’ve met are already there or behind us. Last day tomorrow. 20k walk for Sophie’s birthday then chill in Santiago planned. 🎉💪😊Les mer

  • Castenada to O Pedrouzo

    31. oktober 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Our penultimate day is complete all 27 ks of it. I’ve got to say it was beautiful scenery and the weather was great for walking. Forest’s never disappoint and there were many of them to walk through. I felt calmed by the giant old tree’s, we were showered in golden filtered light and green, so much beautiful green. The day started with a spectacular golden sunrise, followed by a sighting of some Colombian pilgrims all dressed for Halloween. 🎃👻💀Les mer

  • 40 days on Camino Frances

    1. november 2024, Spania ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

So the Camino is completo. Taking some time in Santiago to recover a bit and process all the things. So many places, 40 different hotel rooms and beds, so many faces. Lots of thoughts and feelings unearthed. Grateful to have been able to actually do the walking and for the amigos that walked with me. For Jem being here 16 days, for Sophie coming for the last 115km and for Michael and Maria who fronted up every day for the walk of a lifetime. ✅ Ultreia. Onwards. 👩🏼‍🦯‍➡️💃😊💕😊Les mer

  • O Pedrouzo to Santiago

    1. november 2024, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

An early start today 5:15 am, it was a new moon which meant the sky was dark. Walking through the forest with a head light was quite a thrill. It was very quiet except for the owls calling and water flowing through streams. Most impressive were the star’s, Orion’s Belt was on show with all its brilliance. Quite a rare experience to walk in the dark and to become aware of how the ancient pilgrims were navigating by the stars. If I were ever to come back for another Camino, it would be good to walk earlier in the morning to have this rare experience as a more regular experience. However, I’m not coming back to do another Camino at this stage. Felling very grateful to have completed and for our bodies, minds and spirits standing up to the challenge.Les mer
